he "Moscow
Baroque" ensemble is one of the most interesting phenomena in the
present-day musical life of Moscow. All members of ensemble are laureates of the
international Van Vassenaera Competition, held in Amsterdam. The musicians have already
been playing together in concerts for four years and, after winning the Gran Prix at the
Fifth International Festival of Baroque Music in Riga, have been playing in the best
concert halls in Moscow (the Moscow Kremlin halls, the Russian Cultural Fund, the Chambers
of the Old English Court, the A. S. Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, the halls of the
"Kuskovo" Museum-Country Estate, "Ostankino", the N. Rerich Museum,
and others). These virtuoso musicians play the music of the Baroque era on real antique instruments in an authentic manner. Having painstakingly studied the peculiarities of playing music which are characteristic for different European schools of that period, they have re-created the sound and general atmosphere of that era. The ensemble includes the works of Couperin, Marais, Corelli, Legrenzi, Cazzatti, Simpson, Purcell, Reincken, Hacquart, Schmelzer, Buxtehude, Telemann, Bach in the programs of its concerts. The range of creative interests of the ensemble encompasses vocal pieces: the musicians work together with vocalists, performers of old-time music. Unfortunately, because of the very serious economical crisis in Russia, "Moscow Baroque" cannot publish the recordings of "Apotheose de Lulli" and "Apotheose de Corelli" by Francois Couperin, made at the Kondrashin Classical Recordings firm. |
