Three Rivers Christian Homeschool Support Group is a local support group based in George County, MS with members in George, Greene, and Jackson Counties. Its focus is to help those interested in homeschooling to know where to go to get information, and then, it provides its members with educational and fun activities in the form of fellowship get-to-gethers and field trips, throughout the school year. We do have guidelines and a statement of faith requiring the parent’s signatures that need to be adheared to for membership acceptance. We are, also, affiliated with the State MHEA (Mississippi Home Educators Association).
Joining the ranks of homeschoolers across our nation is an exciting adventure, but an awesome and privilaged responsibility, and not one that should be taken lightly. It takes diligence, perseverence, planning, responsibility, and accountability, not to mention above all PRAYER! Prayer is the one thing that will help make sense of it all, and get you through those days where you question your motives.
To homeschool your children in Mississippi, you are required to inform the Truant Officer of George, Green, or Jackson County of your intent to do so. The number for the truant officer can probably be obtained through your Department of Education. In George County, our truant officer is Cindy Maples, and her number is 945-2032. The Truant Officer will provide you with a form to fill out which informs them of your choice to take your child or children out of public school and enroll them in a homeschooling program. You as a parent are then responsible for gathering information and books from curriculum sources and planning your school year.
