Dr. Muhammad Ali Salmani-Nodoushan is an assistant professor in TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language). He received his B.A. degree in TEFL from Shiraz University in 1990. In the same year, he entered Isfahan University, where he received his M.A. degree in TEFL in 1994. He then joined the Iranian Army for his CMS (Compulsory Military Service) which lasted four years. In 1998, he entered the University of Tehran to continue his studies towards his Ph.D. degree in TEFL which he received in 2002. Since 1990, Dr. Salmani-Nodoushan has been teaching English at different Iranian universities. He began his career at Shiraz University of Medical Sciences, where he taught English for Specific Purposes (ESP) courses to medical students for one academic year (1990-1991). He then moved to Isfahan and taught ESP courses at Isfahan University for one academic year (1991-1992). In the mean time, he was also teaching such major EFL courses as 'language teaching methodology', 'language testing', and 'research methods' at Meybod Azad University in the central province of Yazd, his birth-place. His role as a university instructor in Meybod ended in 1994. During his CMS, he taught major EFL courses at Bandar Abbas Azad University (1994-1996) and Arak Azad University (1996-1998). After entering the University of Tehran in 1998, he went on teaching major EFL courses at Azad University of Bushehr. At present, he is a member of faculty at the University of Zanjan, Iran. During his M.A. studies, Salmani-Nodoushan was interested in sociolinguistics and pragmatics. He conducted his research (for his M.A. thesis) on the topic of "Ostensible Invitations." During his Ph.D. studies, he found language testing and LSP (Language for Specific Purposes) testing more intriguing than pragmatics. In his Ph.D. dissertation, he focused on LSP testing.
