The story starts on a farm. Manor Farm. The farm is in decay, poorly kept by the drunk Mr. Jones. Earlier it was said that "Old Major", the prize boar, and also the the oldest and wisest of all animals, had had a revelation. After Jones was in the house, all the animals of all size, stature and intelligence come and gather to hear te revered boar named "Old Major" speak of his revelation. They are ready to lose a hours sleep for what Major explains, a dream in which he invisioned a world of peace and luxury for all animals. He envisions a place where no whip will crack: animals will be free. He explained to them. "our lives are miserable, laborous, and short...No animal in England knows the meaning of happiness or leisure after he is a year old...Man is the only creature that consumes without producing". Major continued to persuade the more reluctant and slow animals with: "Our labour tills the soil, our dung fertilises it, and yet there is not one of us that owns more than his bare skin. You cows that I see before me, how many thousands of gallons of milk have you given during the last year?? Every drop of it has gone down the throats of the enemies. And you hens, how many eggs have you laid last year and how many hatched into chickens?" He spoke of what they must do. REBELLION. "Get rid of man, and the produce for labour would be our own!!" To be free would be to rid them of man... Make a colony run by animals. They cheered with hearts strong and spirits high. He then told of the harmonic song that would be the tune of their freedom: Beast of England!!! After the uproar, the drunk and lazy Mr. Jones fired his gun, and just like that it was silent. That night all animals slept with content souls...
