YOU ARE A SURVIVOR!!!
These are some of the questions you may have if you've experienced abuse. Unfortunately, I am not equipped or able to answer these questions yet. We are exploring them through counseling right now. But I can tell you this...BELIEVE YOUR CHILDREN... no matter how old they are. Believe your spouse, your sister, your brother, your freind...They need to be supported. We as survivors need to know that you believe, no matter how bizzare or untrue it may seem. This is a very important KEY to SURVIVAL.
I believe as parents we need to explore the possibilities that ANYONE can be abusing our children. Most abusers of this nature are considered upstanding citizens and "church-goers", as were my parents. LISTEN TO YOUR CHILDREN...don't discount anything they may say, and/or any medical disturbances. There are always signs, looking back, you just have to LISTEN for them. I've learned, children are never too young to be abused, they may even be able to verbally tell you, but with my experience, unfortunately, they may be too young to testify in a court of law.
****COMING SOON**** Signs to watch for and educate parents
I found a poem on another survivor page and I liked it so much
that I re-wrote it to my life...
SURVIVORS: Remember, if you are living and breathing and have been abused, you are not just surviving, YOU ARE A SURVIVOR!!!!!!!!!!! Surround yourself with ONLY supportive people. Write down the events and memories as they occur, this is a very special link to remembering and dealing with the past. TALK about it, you should not be ashamed, victims NEVER EVER cause the abuse. Put the blame where it belongs, on the abuser.
SUPPORTERS: LISTEN, BELIEVE, SUPPORT the victim. Sometimes victims have to re-visit their childhood upon remembering the abuse, encourage this....it is a very important tool to surviving. It may actually be re-visiting old neighborhoods and/or places that they remember the abuse from. Hold their hand and follow their lead. Survivors of such abuse have a wonderful maternal sense pattern while dealing with repressed memories. TRUST their instincts.
If you have any poems, links, questions and/or stories of your abuse or the abuse of another, please E-mail me:swingset@Voyager.net. If I find the information helpful to others, I will add it to my page. Please re-visit often as I will be updating my page throughout my recovery. THANKYOU.....
