Talking Back (1994, rev. 1998)

Please look, really look at me.

I'm just a little girl-why can't you ever seem to see?

Please, stop a minute and look down.

That's your daughter's soul you're grinding into the ground.

Come on, open your eyes.

Every day a little more of your child's soul withers and dies.

Whatever were you thinking of?

You stole your baby's innocence and dared to call it love.

You told a thousand lies;

Without speaking a word, you left me with a million whys.

You destroyed my faith in you,

In people, in my instinct to know what's right and true.?

Now I'm talking back to you.

It's never worked, but it's my right and the right thing to do.

I'm facing what you did to me,

Taking back the chains I'm just learning to see.

Daddy! Daddy! There's one thing I'm wishing still,

Wanting all that could have been, hurting for all that never will.
