To a FRIEND IN NEWBURGH: 01-28-02
Re: Yours of 01-24-02
Good to hear from you as always. I guess that was the friend we almost visited in Harlem. Today is the weary monthly pathetic-excuse-for-democracy meeting of the Co-Op, which I have attended for maybe nine years now. I'm a weary warrior if there ever was one. The one bright spot was the Campaign to Save Pacifica Radio which I followed avidly and am missing now that We Won! But it is true: We Won! Remind me to join more campaigns where I can be on the winning side.
But the Pacifica Campaign at least taught me the extreme restraint that is indispensable for effective diplomacy, as manifested in the firm, respectiful, and unfailingly courteous management of a vicious and hostile minority by the Interim Board and specifically by __________ __________ (names escape me sometimes, or rather they interfere with one another), the Chairperson. <02-18-02: Her name is Leslie Cagan, a person I truly admire>
I particularly liked the idea that marriage should be abolished rather than made more inclusive. My girlfriend, whom I hope some day you'll meet, is definitely a Being advanced far beyond anything so unforgiving as what we call Marriage, but that's another topic.
Do you get any Pacifica station in Newburgh? Anyway, you can listen to them all on the web if you do that sort of thing. kpfa.org (Berkeley), wbai.org (New York), wpfw.org (DC), kpfk.org (LA), and KPFT (Houston?). Now that some of the major issues are settled, we turn to the longterm solution to eternal vigilance: The local boards are to be appointed by popular election by the subscribers, staff, and volunteer workers, instead of being appointed by station managers as before. I wish there was a Latin epigram for saying the price for freedom is eternal vigilance.
I also discovered the Chashama Theater Complex recently, since it is on the way to the National Board meeting which was on about 44th Street. I was duly astonished, and left some cards there for my performance (Jan. 11th). Sorry you couldn't be there for my first attempt at a one-man show. It was spotty but received with high spirits by the seven luminous devotees who attended. Hopefully I will begin integrating these sessions into my development of the Church-of-Progressive-Medicine idea. Or maybe not.
See you. An any time you're around, look me up if you can. I'm still unemployed, so I have lots of time though never anything that could be called leisure or tranquillity, except maybe for a few hours after my infrequent visits with my Lady Love, the Princess Petalsoft. I'm sure you know my number, but if not it is ----/---/----. Next AB2SOLOMON - March 23rd, same place, same time. Did you get the EMail about it?
In solidarity :) Albert.
