Texas Rangers," a western featuring Usher Raymond, has had its release date pushed back until the spring of 2001, meaning that Usher's fans will now get their next dose of the multitalented star on October 31, when his "All About U" album arrives in stores. For the new album, Usher's third studio effort, the singer-actor collaborated with the likes of Jermaine Dupri, Babyface, and She'kspere Briggs, the latter of whom lent his production skills on the record's first single, "Pop Your Collar." Usher recently chatted with MTV News about "Pop Your Collar," which he noted had a slightly throwback, yet altogether original sound that fits in well with the record's universal feel and appeal. "Well, if you know She'kspere," Usher said, "then you know his credibility is really good. The track is reminiscent of the '80s. At the same time, it has a new twang, and it's a sound that you've never heard before and you won't be able to believe. How about that? "'All About U' is an everyday, feel-good record," he added. "It's an all-about-everything record, from the topic matter to the music. If you like hip-hop, you'll love it. If you like R&B, you'll love it. If you like rap, you'll love it. If you like well-written songs, you'll love this album. It's a movement, and my plans are to start a new trend overall. I'm a leader, not a follower." Despite the delay in the release of "Texas Rangers," which also stars James Van Der Beek, Rachael Leigh Cook, and Dylan McDermott, Usher said that after roles in "She's All That," "Light It Up," and "The Faculty" in the past two years, he's happy to focus on music once again. "Actually, I don't have any more acting roles [lined up]," Usher told MTV News. "There's plenty on the table, but I don't have any that I've definitely dedicated a piece of my [schedule] to. Right now, my focus is solely on my album and the touring." Usher said he hopes to launch a tour in support of "All About U" around the first of the year. |
