3ZB2 [v.097]: Navigates like a real player even better at times, but as a result can be a bit too predictable, it really follows a route very well! Can play about any map, lava and slime are not a problem. Combat skills are top notch and this is a highly configurable bot with many parameters that can be altered to suit your combat taste.
SCORE: 9.5/10
3ZB [v1.58]: Simpler bot, fun and very worthy. Easier than 3ZB2.
SCORE: 7/10
GLADIATOR [v.96]: Highly recommend this one for it's human-like AI. It will even try to answer back when you chat with it. Combat skills are configurable and it does seem to be more random than other bots. Navigation is not optimal for all maps like any other bot [except perhaps 3zb2 and it's offspring goldsoft and tmg] but exceptionally good on others. Water may be their Achilles heel. The fellow who made it was hired by ID to help make the bots for Quake 3. He also passed away on Jan 31 of 2017. R.I.P.
SCORE: 9.5/10
ERASER [v1.01]: A true classic. Outstanding on small to medium custom maps with many great variants of this bot out in the wild. Really great and configurable skill settings make it a challenge. Although not as realistic as Gladiator, they do seem to handle water a bit better.
SCORE: 8/10
CRBOT [v1.14]; My personal favourite. Very funny and very good. Easy to load and use - a very K.I.S.S. bot but a challenge at the same time.
SCORE: 8/10
OAK2 [v.40]: This bot is strange but good for a laugh. Arena oak is better.
SCORE: 4/10
BORRADOR [v2.01]: Improved Eraser, but I actually did not notice much difference. It really does not miss with the rail gun on the highest skill but neither did Eraser much. Certainly is a worthy bot.
SCORE: 8/10
ICE [v1.10]: Recommend highly to beginners for easy skill 1 bots and the launcher is really top tier. One fault, I feel, is that it looks a little choppy or laggy.
SCORE: 7.5/10
FAMKEBOT [v7.0]: Practice mode is great and it's also the only real cooperative bot for Quake 2. I always had a hell of a hard time making routes for this one, but if you managed it, the bot was alright. The practice mode really can improve your rail gun skills because it's constant, as in you don't get gibbed, you just rack up points.
SCORE: 7/10
RAMBOT [v.48a]: Algorithms drive this sucker which makes it unique and interesting. Supports only deathmatch and comes with a really well done skin. The aiming is very well done, but the navigation kinda blows, although considering that it uses no nodes it's not that terrible. Two or three on a small map is fun.
SCORE: 6.5/10
ACE [v.007]: Does the job. Bundled with simple launcher when downloaded from Acebot site.
SCORE: 6.5-7/10
ACE [v.008]: Better navigation than 007 but weaker combat. The author states on his site that the AI is basic but the source is provided so that anyone who can could plug in there own AI routines. If this bot had Eraser or 3zb2 combat it would kick ass.
SCORE: 6.5/10
TMGBOT: 3ZB2 with rail option.
SCORE: 9.5/10
GOLDSOFT BOT: I just found this one and it is another 3ZB2 bot clone; however, unlike 3ZB2 it does not cross over to the next map when a match hits its time or frag limit, so it's not really suitable for a server, but that's not really a necessity for a practice bot anyhow. It does have a rail only option as well. Very good bot.
