I began performing on stage with my father and his band 'Side By Side' when I was sixteen. There I stayed until he had taught me enough to start my own band. In 1993 I started a band called 'Shameless' and began touring Western Canadian clubs and festivals. Last year we began touring the United States and have spent seven of the last twelve months in Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, South Dakota, Arizona & Nevada. I released my first CD in 1996. Recorded, produced, mixed and mastered in Calgary at Sundae Sound Studio by Rob Bartlett and David Horrocks, 'Lisa Dodd...never heard of her' was my first offering to the recording industry. A combination of very close friends and complete strangers all took part in bringing this project to life. It was a great opportunity to have some fun making music while learning an entirely different aspect of the business. I discovered singing in a studio environment has very little in common with performing live. I'm not sure which is more difficult, or exciting, or enjoyable - it's like apples and oranges. I have had so many different musical influences, I tried to include them all with the styles of music on this album. I stayed true to the country side of myself with songs like GOODBYE WHEATLAND COUNTY, THAT'S HOW OVER IT IS (the third single released), and BRAND NEW DAY, which was the first single released in 1996 on 'Nashville Showcase Vol. 2', a compilation by Westwood International Records. Brand New Day was well received in Europe and reached # 30 on the Top 100 Europe Country Variety chart in May, '97. I allowed myself to cross over a little bit with a few heavier songs like SOMETHIN'S OUT THERE, I LOVE BEING WRONG, and HERE COMES TROUBLE, my second single, which peaked at # 62 on the Top 100 'CANCOUNTRY' Hits chart in May, '98. The up tempo songs are balanced out by the classic sounding ballads ALL LOVE NEEDS and I GOT THE BLUES AGAIN. The last song on the disc was put there by request. A lot of people who saw our live performance asked me to include an a cappella song called THE STAR - not very radio friendly I suppose, but I've never liked refusing a request from a listener. |
