SONG ELIGIBILITY
Any song that gets onto the VH1 Top Ten for any length of time is put into the archive. However, that doesn't mean that every song that's ever been on the countdown will be here in the archive. See, I only started watching the VH1 Top Ten in the summer of 1998, and I didn't start recording the charts until the first week of 1999. As a result, some songs in this archive (denoted by asterisks) had been on the VH1 Top Ten before I started keeping track of them. These songs don't have their full career statistics listed, only those from the recorded data I have. Sorry to them.
POINT DISTRIBUTION
So how do I determine all those wonderful little point tabulations, you ask? Well, I use certain parameters to be as realistic and accurate as possible. The following parameters ensure that neither weeks on chart or peak have dominance over performance on the chart. Both are needed for best results.
- The video at # 1 gets 12 points.
- The video at # 2 gets 11 points.
- The video at # 3 gets 10 points.
- The video at # 4 gets 9 points.
- The video at # 5 gets 8 points.

- The video at # 6 gets 7 points.
- The video at # 7 gets 6 points.
- The video at # 8 gets 5 points.
- The video at # 9 gets 4 points.
- The video at # 10 gets 3 points.
