Profile - Josh Homme

There seems to be little information on the web about Josh Homme, below I intend to give a brief profile with the intention of filling it out later. Josh Homme is regarded by many as the best guitarist there is. Some say he is just the best on the stoner scene. Either way it is impossible to dissmiss the amount of guitarists and band influenced by his minimal approach and completely unlaboured technique. Josh was one of the founding members of Kyuss in Palm Desert CA. in 1990. Over five years Kyuss shot to cult status with litarally hundreds of bands picking up the vibe from the desert and jumping on the stoner train. Josh had just turned 18 when Kyusses first album 'wretch' was released, and was only 22 when the band split in 1995 (i'm not sure if the math works there, but i'm working from lots of different sources) At Kyusses last gig fans chanted from the audience 'Josh is God'. Josh decided to get out of the desert and moved to Seattle where he toured with the Screaming Trees for two years. But drawn back to the desert Josh got in touch with ex-kyuss members, Nick Oliveri and Alfredo Hernandez, and released an EP under the name 'Gamma ray' after some leagel problems the band were forced to change the name and decided on 'Queens of the stone age' a pet name given to Kyuss by Chriss Goss (masters of reality, kyuss producer) the first song released under the name 'queens of the stone age' was 18 AD on a compilation CD 'music for stoners'. Shortly after that the 'queens' self-titled, debut album was released, it was slightly before this Josh started 'The Desert Sessions' the idea was that it would be an experiment, 6 EPs (now extended to 10 allegedly) with a revolving line-up, not just a whos-who of stoner, but also an opportunity to show-case new talent and new ideas. Josh and Nick parted company with Alfredo and recruted Gene Trautman (ex-kyuss) on drums as well as Dave Cathing on electric piano and slide guitar and are currently touring the second 'queens' album 'Rated R'.
