An award winning music academy for some very special students! Students may study piano, vocal art, vocal theater, music theory and composition. Our piano and voice classes are held on an individual basis for forty-five minutes once a week. Students spend one/half hour on the keyboard perfecting repertoire and technical assignments, and the remainder of their lesson is spent in a state of the art computer workstation. Lessons are held year round and tuition can be paid by the semester plan or monthly. During the summer students may choose to take a different course. For example if a student has studied piano for nine months they may choose musical theater during the summer.
Mrs. Barden works to motivate students by extablishing a FUN practice routine and preparing students for repertoire and theory classes in which performance opportunities are encouraged but may be optional. Mrs. Barden realizes that everyone is not going to become a performer and offers performance opportunities as options. Some people just take piano for their own enjoyment and that is very healthy! but others are very serious about their music and Mrs. Barden gives them every opportunity to succeed as performers and composers. Students in the academy have published with major publishing companies, won college scholarships, and been accepted into the North Carolina School of the Arts Summer Programs.
Mrs. Barden encourages parents to get involved with their child's education by taking them to concerts and other musical events. She also encourages parents to praise their children with words of positive reinforcement when they are practicing.
