In recent years Mariachi music has gained a lot of popularity in South Texas and the nation. Coastal Bend College has the opportunity to promote mariachi music in the Coastal Bend area.   We have been grateful to present some of the most accomplished school programs and individual vocalists in Texas at our annual competition.  Bringing school ensembles together for the purpose of entertaining, competing, and educating the public is one of the many community services that college’s can provide through the Arts. 

 

San Diego High School

The mission of Dia Del Mariachi is to work for Mariachi music excellence, develop young leaders with Hispanic cultural understanding and inspire a spirit of pride and unity in the people and communities of South Texas.

 

The goals of Dia Del Mariachi are to:

 

       provide excellent music education for youth

       create Mariachi musicians with outstanding musical talent

       use Mariachi music to facilitate the understanding of the Hispanic Culture

       create cultural ambassadors with our youth by performing Mariachi music with high artistic talent and pride

       introduce everyone to Coastal Bend College’s educational opportunities

       inform the public about our educational partnerships with area universities and colleges.

In past years’, we have featured professional and High School groups recognized nationally, internationally, and in the State of Texas such as:  Mariachi Femenil Las Eréndiras de San Antonio, Mariachi UT—San Antonio, Mariachi UT—Pan American, Mariachi Nuevo San Antonio de Jose R. Torres, Mariachi Las Azucenas, Mariachi Amistad de Beeville, (Schools)—Roma High School Mariachi Nuevo Santander, Mariachi Cotuleńo Cotulla High School, Mariachi Halcon Zapata High School, San Diego High School Mariachi Azul Y Oro, Mariachi de Mi Pueblo Robstown High School, Mark Twain Middle School, Uvalde Middle School, Cigarroa High School, San Antonio Fox Tech Bonito Tech, etc.

 

We would like to thank Alice and the surrounding communities for their support of Mariachi music.   “Dia Del Mariachi” will once again be a great experience to the mariachi students and to everyone who attends the festivities.
