Halsey Rd. - by Summer

It was the first day of school in the 8th grade and I was on the bus with my friends about...you guessed it, Haley Joel Osment. They were all rolling their eyes and plugging their ears and doing anything possible to block out the sound of my voice chatting on and on and on about the object of my effection which they were quite sick of hearing about. Every day over the summer it had been nothing but "Haley this..." and "Haley that." So here I was again, non-stop chatter. When the bus ride finally ended, they were all releaved to get away from me. I went and found more of my friends to tell about how many times I had seen the Sixth Sense and how I could recite the script to Pay It Forward and how cute the picture was on my wall at home.

That afternoon, I got on the bus again and again talked about Haley. I was telling them about the pictures I had hung in my locker, the "I LOVE HALEY" I had doodled on my paper during math class, and what my friends had all said about Haley. I looked out the window for a brief monet nad something caught my eye. Had I just seen Haley's name!? I looked back and saw "Haley Rd." Clearly printed on a street sign. I checked one more time and saw that it said "Halsey," not "Haley." I sighed in disapointment and said "If the 'S' wasn't in that sign, it would say Haley." Every single one of my friends groaned and asked me "Are you ever going to get over him?"

It became a tradition from then on, that every afternoon when we passed that sign I wold always say "If the 'S' wasn't in that sign, it would say Haley." I even decided that when I got a dog I was going to name him "Halsey." Sometimes I would forget and someone would remind me to say it. Then, one day I got a message from the office that told me my bus run ahd been switched from 51 to 52. I didn't understand why. When I went to bus 52, they told me that 52 was a more convienient run and that I had been permanently switched. I was heartbroken that I would no longer pass Halsey Rd. on the bus ride. A few weeks later, my friend Sally from bus 51 asked me "Are you ever coming back?" I told her I wasn't and she frowned and said "Haley misses you."

Our house was just sold because my mom couldn't afford it anymore. So we were looking around for new houses. We drove into one that I liked a lot. It was sort of small but my room would be connected to a bathroom, tons of my friends all lived in the same area, and there was a really nice field right accross the street. I looked at that field one last time and it looked firmiliar. We passed it every day on our bus run on 51! I realized two things: 1) If we moved here, I would be on my old bus again and I would pass Halsey Rd. and 2) Halsey Rd. was also in walking distance! I begged my mom non-stop to buy that house and she has writtena contract on it. I think our chances of getting it are pretty big and once again, I will be able to yell out on the bus in the afternoon, "If the 'S' wasn't in that sign, it would say Haley."
