Terre Haute Metal Meltdown

PPP and Even to the Stars

December 13th, Sams Club, Terre Haute IN

by Adam McGuire

With a city covered in snow and the youth starving for metal, PPP put on this tasty little gig to show off its brightest and most original local acts which consisted of themselves and new rockers Even to the Stars. With a non-ample cover charge of $2 and releasing of the new PPP disc "Extra Schloppy", that night was going to be very special. The 20-30 Terre Haute music supporting kids showed up and did the usual stand outside chain smoking or not paying any attention to the bands at all. Some actually played pool during the two bands performances. A great loss was suffered by them because both bands played one hour sets of original heavy music.

(PPP performance stuff here)

Even to the Stars was next. Having being very impressed with their techno drum/doom/rock like downloadable songs I knew that they would rock out and DID THEY EVER! They played a mostly original set which included the banger friendly Decaying Rose, clean acoustic driven Wishing and Waiting, and polka-punk beat set ender (and my personal favorite) Your Crazy. The band seemed very well practiced and into it. Watching the band was very entertaining. Each member seems to have their own onstage style to offer. Guitarist/Vocalist Alex keeps busy with guitar pedal switching and actual singing. Bassist AJ is quite visual with his long hair headbanging, and drummer Steve-o delivers active drum fills during songs. Even to the Stars is a overall great live band. I still think that their songs work best through recording.

*But then again please bear in mind that their was no instrument PA's or good none feedback vocal PA's at the show so I cannot really judge.

To hear them recorded please visit their website (http://www.eventothestars.com) and download the free demo "Deadweightsongs" We will just have to wait and see if they can still keep the drum machine or record with real drums in the future.
