Biography of Chris Henricks | Back to Home Page |
Chris (Henricks) is from Indianapolis Indiana (May 26th 1950) (Born & raised). Eight
years at St. Marks School, and went on to Perry Central & Southport High School. (1968)
“I got my start with the drums by being appointed by my father as “drummer boy” for a
Civil War re-enactment unit, The 19th Indiana Volunteer Infantry. I remember in 1960 my
Dad brought home an old wooden marching drum he had picked up at a Good Will
store”. “He replaced the heads, bought some sticks, and put a marching strap on it, handed it to me and said. “You are now the drummer boy for the 19th Indiana”. I had tried the Accordion and then Trombone (Trombone to imitate my older brother Jerry) but was never really comfortable with either instrument. From the minute I had those sticks in my hand for the first time. I was in love, with drums. “I built my own trap set out of marching drums fashioned my own bass drum beater out of wood, a spring and a coat hanger. I played along with any music available. Then the Beatles hit and I started looking for band members. I went through a lot of players with transportation, musical equipment and availability being the major criteria for their selection (not talent)”. In 1965 I finally ended up with Bill Harding, Greg Weis and Stanley Mikel, to form the Fugitives. Stanley knew of a guitar player named, Duaine Taylor and invited him to practice one evening. That evening has turned into a 40 year friendship for Duaine, (A.k.a. Ben), Chris, and Bill. (The original Vlasics).Duaine knew of another guitar player who he said had a car! (And lots of talent) Dan Ware joined the band to round out the group. When the Vlasics broke up in 1969, Chris went on playing with various groups around the Indy music scene, most notably: Dynamite Butch 1971-1973 and Push 1973-1975. “I left the music business in February 1975 to join the “real world””. Says Chris. I was burned out totally disillusioned and ready for something fresh. I sold my drums and did not play a lick for 10 years.” Jimmy Andrews, Chris Henricks, Suzie Horan, Susan Gibson, Hoot Gibson, Ben Taylor (Dig Me Show Band) 1985 Jeff Horan, Ben Taylor, Chris Henricks, Suzie Horan, , Hoot Gibson, Susan Gibson “After that 10 year hiatus I finally reunited with Duaine (Now Ben Taylor) in 1985 with a group from Martinsville IN. called “The Dig Me Show Band” I was back at it again. The “Dig-Me-Show-Band” kept me occupied less and less until 2001 when Flashback was formed. (I still “Jam” with the Dig Me’s from time to time) And so….”The rest is also” History” . . . . . . . . . . |
