ABC TV MOVIE MUSICAL COMEDY SPECIAL
Television Special Opened November 28, 1965
The classic fairy tale re-told from the Wolf's point of view. Ritchard has a comic field day as the wolf, and it's a rare chance to see the young LIZA in action. Their "Ding-A-Ling" duet, with Ritchard in Granny's drag, is a campy delight, and Vic Damone has the lovely "You'll Need A Song." Styne & Merrill provided a Broadway-quality score, and the forgettable rock group "The Animals" are not on long enough to harm the fun. Only re-run once or twice, the show was released on video in 1990. Great fun for theatre buffs, but savvy kids will enjoy it too -- as a five year old, I thought it was fantastic. A soundtrack album was released and is now a collectable, as is the home video. If you can find this anywhere, do catch it!
