Fun Facts From Newsies

Most of these you probably don't know, so take a look!

* For a realistic look, Max Casella (Racetrack) smoked real cigars and Christian Bale (Jack) smoked real cigarettes, but both hated them.

* To make the newspapers look like they were filled with articles, one paragraph was printed over and over in them.

* Ele Keats (Sarah) was supposed to sing a song called "What Will Become of the Boy," but didn't because of difficulties with the song.

* Many times after dance numbers the Newsies would get holes in their costumes and were sewn in between takes.

* There was a factory scene that was edited to make room for "King of NY," which was a last minute addition.

* Many times at the end of the week, the boys would play pranks against director Kenny Ortega.

* The boys had to learn martial arts during rehearsals. (One of Christians favorite parts.)

* Christian didn't exactly like the idea of singing and dancing for Newsies. He asked Kenny if he could "duck into a pub during the dance numbers."

* Sarah was supposed to be a street-wise, independent woman and Jack was supposed to be a complex character with a haunting past.

* Mush got his nickname because of the parks he always took girls to.

* To get the New York accents perfect, Newsies had it's own dialect coach. However, if the actors couldn't find the coach, they would practice on New York-native Max Casella, who, because of his own accent, was able to master speaking like a New Yawker.

* When there wasn't filming or practices taking place the guys would take trips to the movies or play paintball wars at one of the local centers.

* That's right Newsies fans, Max Casella(racetrack) was really 24/25 years old while filming Newsies. If you look close enough, you can tell in his face that he is 25.

* A very good observation that me and babycakes picked up on is worth mentioning. This observation would be when Pulitzer is in his office and starts saying, " when i created the world...." and then the other guys roll their eyes. Well, think about it, he isn't talking about creating the actual Earth, he is talking about his newspaper because his newspaper is called The World. You can also think of it that way in the song "The World Will Know" because in one part they sing " and the world will know, and the journal too...." and so on. Good observation huh?

* Did you know that Felicity's own Kerri Russell auditioned for the part of Sarah but she didn't get it because she can't sing? I thought that was odd because Sarah has only *one* singing line in the whole thing.

*Carrying the banner really means sleeping outdoors so i guess they the Newsies think that's quite the fine life for them.

*Christian's dog Mojo was originally supposed to have a role as the Jacobs' dog, but was eventually cut out of the movie because he wouldn't cooperate well.

More to come!!!
