WILLIAM & PHEBE CROSLEY
William was born in 1777, in Pennsylvania or Virginia, the son of Ross and Sarah Crosley.
Phebe was born in 1781. The first record of William and Phebe is from membership records of the
Columbia Baptist Church from Hamilton County, Ohio, in 1801. The 1820 census shows William living
in Harrison Twp., Preble County, Ohio. The 1830 tax records show William farming in Salem Twp.,
Warren County, Ohio.
Tragedy hit the family home when on October 21, 1834, William and Phebe died of cholera. Abner
Stites who lived with them also died of cholera on the same day. He was married to William's
daughter Cynthia. An account of this occurrence is printed in the Western Star Newspaper, of
Lebanon, Ohio, on October 24, 1834. It states his mother to be living with him and near death from
cholera.
William and Phebe are buried in Ft. Ancient Cemetery, Warren County, Ohio. Abner Stites is
buried in the same grave with William Crosley. There is no record of a will for William or Phebe,
so there is no known record of their children.
