Introducing gerbils to other gerbils
Hi! now this is a little different. All the info. here is preety much my own knowlege and there are no pictures so I don't have to right my no copyright thing!! YEAH~
You will need
- Gerbils(duh)-the most successful ones are two females together and or a mating pair and or a group of young pups to an adult male.
- A tank best if 10 gallons for every 2 gerbils(3 for 15)
- A mesh divider- you can just get a screen cage top at pet store and fit it in so that there are no holes in which they can get to each other and tall so they can't jump over it should fit diagonly from side to side
- Litter. Works best if nothing else is in the cage(no distractions)
- IMPORTANT- females are the dominet sex( now there's a nice change) of the gerbils, so it's likely that if you have more than two in a tank they will fight. Now I once had 4 girls in one cage lived happily ever after. but it may have to do with the fact that they were all family. But now that I know the risks I won't do it again. So do at your OWN RISK!
Step- by- Step
- Put one of the gerbils on one side of the tank and one on the other. Let them stay in their seperate sides for 30-60 minutes
- Take the gerbils and switch them and let them stay in the oppisite side for 45-65 minutes( this is so they get used to each other's sent
- Now switch them again and for the same time limit
- Now keep them in the side their in now and remove the screen. If all goes well they eill be fine. HOWEVER you MUST watch them very closely until about 2 days and even longer to make sure fighting doesn't occur.
- Remember that males are usually the only ones who can be safely put in groups here's how. Say you breed gerbils one time. You want to reintroduce the males to their father again. Well, you follow the steps as before but put the group of gerbils all on one side.
Note~
- This may not work the first time if it doesn't try doing it all over again the next day. If you do it over three consecutive times themn it probaly won't work. Remember gerbils are social animals and should be keeped together with at least one other
