The university Jesuits preach
service to society as a life mission. And even before college Harv was
predisposed to the joys of work but was raised to a tradition where self
mattered less. Thus with some retrospective wisdom, his service orientation
now consciously includes a more balanced love of self and others. In short,
the crucifixion and sacrifice models have been replaced by the wholly spirit
model. But that does not change the joys invloved in the following samples
of civic service. However, the self v others imbalance was debilitating.
Another view of imbalance could be that of handling stress badly, that
is, beyond the self joys of work there was little stability or stature
of self from the work progressions.
