On Monday April 7, 2003, I went to see Dr. Lisa Davis in Richmond, Kentucky to get the final touch - silicone oil injections. (Her facility is called "Pathway to Bliss" - Please visit her site via the link of this page. I was very impressed with all of the unique services she offers). I looked like this:

Note that the top lip had lost a great deal of plumpness. Again, this is rare, but it did happen to me.

Before I go into my adventure that day, let me tell you a little about medical grade silicone oil, specifically Silikon 1000, which is what I got:

Silikon 1000 is an injectable medical grade silicone oil FDA approved for Opthamological use in repairing retinal detachment. The use of Silikon 1000 in lip augmentation is an "off-label" use. It is a very thin oil which when injected into the lips becomes incorporated into the tissue, and continues to "grow" for several weeks or up to two or three months. So what you "first see" isn't alway what you end up with. The lip grows with time. The "silicone lip is natural looking and soft.

I arrived at my appointment way too early, but Dr. Davis greeted me with enthrusiasm, and I immediately liked her.

We chatted awhile and Dr. Davis patiently explained the mechanics of the product, what the procedure would entail, and what I could expect hours, days, and weeks after the procedure. Our goal was to even out the assymatry from the skin graft (20 years back!), emthasize the lip border and philtrum, and add fullness to both top and bottom. Quite a challenge. I had already decided to go light (less than 1 cc) to begin with. We both agreed that we could always put more in, but not take it out. My own research indicated that many people have up to three or more sessions.

Dr. Davis allowed me to see the label and applied some numbling cream to my face. After several minutes, I lay on my back and the anesthetic lidocaine shots begin. They hurt, but I knew I didn't want to feel the actual silicone injections!

I had my eyes closed thoughout the procedure, but my caring doctor spoke to me throughout, explaining what was going on and what she was doing.

When it was over, I looked like this:

(That's Arnica Gel - a natural healing ointment making them glisten)

So, I went home and waited for the magic to happen.

14 days post (April 20, 2003)
My assymatry has evened out, and the lips are gaining more fullness. Notice where the doctor rebuilt the philtrum (those two little columns above the lip and under the nose).

So far, the changes are subtle but noticeable.

Well, here we are at 35 days! That's five weeks, and I've really noticed a difference in this time. Now, I had planned to have all makeup the same in all pictures and so forth to avoid any weird variables that might make the pic look different, but I finally decided it didn't matter.

I had to get a nice spring hair color (brings out the blue in my eyes, don't you think?)
I also changed my foundation to Dermablend as this pink skin tone has got to go.
That being said, just concentrate on the lip.

I'm really glad that Dr. Davis put some concentration on the lip line. It has given it more definition and a natural lip appearance (very important when you've had a liplift. My next round (whenever that may be), I will probably have more put in this area. My lip buddy "Annette" tells me this will give me less nose to lip ratio as well (making me look younger)and create volume too. Maybe we'll go together...

More to come later - we're takin' it slow and easy here!
