Thomas & Sarah worked in Westminster, London in the household of William Ellice (merchant). Neither mentioned they were married on the 1851 census presumably so they could keep their positions. Thomas was a footman and Mary a kitchen maid. They migrated to Australia around 1851 and their first child in Australia was born in Beechworth 1855. Thomas’ occupation in 1855 was Confectioner. When their 2nd son was born, Thomas was now a miner at Ovens River. They then followed the gold to Morses Creek (Bright) in 1861. Their last child, Edward was born in Harrietville. They finally settled in Corryong were Thomas was a farmer. |
