A famous Physician and Poet in HAMA .

”HAMA is the Osontes , the Norias and Wajeeh Al-Baroudi” .

He was born in HAMA IN 1906 to a well-to-do family ;and was sent to the A.U.B. in Beirut with a group of his cousins to study at the Evangelist School in 1918and at the A.U.B. to be graduated as a General Practitioner in 1932 ,He practiced as a Physician up to his death in 1996 .

He received the Ministry of Health ‘s Shield in 1991 as a Pioneer Physician in Syria , and was celebrated as a Poet when he reached his 70`s where a group of the Syrian Poets , Men of letters and Critics participated . He was awarded the Poetry Chalice .

His poetry got formulated at the A.U.B. where with some colleagues (Farroukh, Omer the Lebanese, Toukan, Ibrahim the Palestinian and Jamil Hafez the Iraqi) established a society called “Dar Al –Nadwa” in 1926 and he setout singing his finest poetry ,sincere .

He lived in HAMA a revolutionist ,a lover and a humanist Physician and a unique Poet ,He published his first Group of poems “Between me and the Ladies” in 1950 and reprinted it with his second group of poems “So am I” in 1971 and his third group of poems “The Lord of Lovers” in1994 ,Still there is a group of his posthumous poems awaiting some one to collect and publish them .

Wooing ,no doubt was prominent in all his poems where he was ever-earnest to beauty and never reclined because of old age as he said in one of his poems :

People get wondering ,how could a man of eighty with a bending back bear love .

He experienced love when was young ,man and an old man  and got much more real and experience ,he is in his eighty of much youth and more treacherous than an adolescent.

He depicted in his poetry much of the scenery of life which were realistic pictures of sweetness , beauty and light-hearted ness ,or criticism to society and life in HAMA ,he led a revolution against backwardness and poverty as revealed in his Red poem of his first group of poems:

Yesterday I passed by laymen and asked them what do you wish for ?

They replied we want bread and water ,

A well-to-do man came next and I asked him “what ails you ?

And he replied :life is a harden,

My car has lost its novelty , I want another with gleam and splendour. Yee poor , wake up and get rid of your ignorance , Yee whose lives are rottenness and disease.

The globe should one day have a day in which it revolts and the sun in the sky becomes with a bursting rejection completely red .

As for his personality ,it was rich in forgiveness repulsion and clarity and real in general and special ,he continued a lover ,a physician ,a doctor and supreme until he became a reference in untreated cases and many tales were told of him ,he described himself ,:I am a wise man of ninety years and my school is science and experiments ,”and said I am the outstanding physician and I have a white hand over my city of Norias .

This loving and critical soul of him continued with him until many people accused him of hypocrisy and atheism ; but he rejected this accusation that he was a good believer and went to MECCA for pilgrimage ,the action that left a good echo in his country men of HAMA who received him as a conqueror , he said in his poem defending himself :

I am not a hypocrite nor an unbeliever , I am not a killer nor a thief  ,I love the Prophet ‘s ethics and his companions where a morning without those lanterns is complete darkness .people did not know my love and my creed and much differences lie between me and them .

As for his family ,he married his aunt’s daughter in 1931 and got seven males and three females children ,he was to them the lenient father though he ,himself had lost his mother while he was seventeen and lost his father’s aid after his father’s second marriage .He lost his wife and three of his sons what had left an unhealed wound in his heart ,hi total life was love and un ended  grant to all around him that he left a living memory in the hearts of those who liked him and in the history of his city he deserved the right to say :

I am living in my struggling results and in my poetry which remains fresh , and in my medicine ,experience ,and love I will be eternally for ever alive.
