MpMhS wReStLiNg!!

Wrestling has been part of the Moses Peter Memorial High School for the past 5 years now. Wrestling coach, Mr. Stockton, has sent 5 different state qualifiers to state during those 5 years. Not forgetting to mention, many of these state qualifiers have gone more than once. MPMHS is not a large school, which means there are not very many wrestlers. However, the wrestling participants are skilled wrestlers who are gaining more experience every year. Very difficult practices help with improving a wrestler's skills. On the 31st of October, five wrestlers left for a ten day road trip - Jeremy Phillips, Brent Latham, Robert Jackson, Jason Ekamrak, Kim Schneider. They first went to Valdez to wrestle in that tournament. Robert placed third in the 145lb weight class, Brent placed fourth in the 152lb weight class and Jason placed fourth in the 135lb weight class. After that they wrestled in the big ACS tournament which was held in Anchorage. None of our wrestlers placed. "We learned a lot and everybody wrestled well." quoted coach Stockton. "There were just a few small mistakes that kept people from placing." Jason, Brent and Jeremy were all one match away from placing. Wrestlers will be leaving to Bristol Bay on the 4th of December for regionals. The tournament starts on th 6th and ends on the 7th. The top three wrestlers in each weight class will qualify for the state tournamet which will be held in Homer. Coach Stockton hopes to send several people to state this year. Best of luck to all the wrestlers! UPDATE: Regionals didn't go the way coach Stockton was hoping it would. However, one of our wrestlers did make it to state; that's junoir, Robert Jackson. Robert (nick-named: Brownie) wrestled his frist match at regionals and beat some guy from Bristol Bay. His second match was against New Halen, he also won that match. The third match was against Ryan Nickleson of Dillingham, which Robert lost. Robert placed 2nd in the 145 lb weight class. A few days later Robert and Coach Stockton left for Homer to compete in the state competitions. Robert wrestled Derek Turner from Unalakleet and lost that match. Turner finished second overall. The next match Robert wrestled was against a guy from Nikiski. Robert won this one. His last match was against a guy from Grace Christian School. Robert lost this match, therefore he did not place at state.
