No one turns a phrase (melodic or poetic) like Jackson
Browne. No one tugs at your emotions and generates so
much empathy (not sympathy) as Jackson Browne. No one.
If you've only heard him on the radio, you haven't
heard his best material. I have collected the links
to his albums on this page, and included my honest
heartfelt comments. I was an amateur guitarist when
I first heard Jackson Browne. His music (and lyrics)
inspired me to work hard enough at my music to make a
living at it. Please take some time, and get to know
Jackson Browne's music.

I'll be updating this page between students and gigs,

This is the one that started it all. I was a
senior in high school when I first heard "Doctor My
Eyes" on the radio. It haunted me. I had to go buy
the album. I played it over and over. I learned all
the guitar parts off it, and transposed the songs to
my vocal range so I could do them in my solo act. The
songs carried a lot of emotion, and it was easy for me
to sing them with feeling. But more importantly,
without being aware of it, I was developing my melodic
guitar phrasing.
BTW, that's Albert Lee on electric guitar on "A Child
in These Hills" and "Under the Falling Sky"
David Crosby (yes, the David Crosby of "Crosby, Stills,
Nash") sings Harmony on several tracks.
I was so glad this album came out. I was hungry for
more of the lyrics and melodies I had been so affected
by on the first album. I was not disappointed. The
material on this album more than lived up to the first
album. No sophomore jinx here. David Lindley's
skillful and inspiring slide guitar work is the icing
on the cake.
Don Henley and Glen Frey both do harmony vocals, as do
Bonnie Raitt and David Crosby. That's Michael Utley
(more famous for his work with Jimmy Buffett) on organ
on the last two tracks.
As far as I am concerned, this album is Jackson
Browne's Master Work. I play this album more than any
other album in my collection. If you don't buy any
other Jackson Browne CD, buy this one. Incredible
ensemble work, great solos from David Lindley,
outstanding dynamics, lush tonal textures, all from an
era when all the notes are played by human fingers on
real musical instruments. I have no gripe against
sampling, but I am very impressed by skillful
performances on real versus virtual instruments.
Released in 2002. First album of all new songs from Jackson Browne since 1996's Looking East. Ten tracks, including the first single, 'The Night Inside Me'.
If you only buy one Jackson Browne CD, get Late For The Sky. It is his master work. After that, add this collection. It will duplicate three songs, but is an excellent sampling and covers a wide number of years, and shows Jackson browne's depth.
