I saw Jonny Lang play on 3/7/98 for the first time. Anders Osborne opened for
them. The show was at World Mardi Gras in Charlotte NC, + they sold out the
2000 person capacity venue. The show was AWESOME, but left me kinda sad b/c I
knew Jonny didn't come to this area very often! But I had NO idea it'd be over
a year before I saw them again!
I took a ton of pix, here are a few of my faves... (please e-mail me if u wanna take these! + please don't use them on a webpage or anything!)

The next concert I went to was on 9/25/99 during the Carolina Music Fest here
in Charlotte. I went w/ 2 of my friends, w/ the intent of not leaving until I
had met the band! We knew that they were supposed to take stage at 9:30 PM, so
we got there about 2 hrs ahead of time + were asking everyone offical-like to
give us backstage passes, but to no avail. So we snuck around back, behind the
fences, + I saw Doug, the bassist. So we started calling him, he came down, +
gave us 3 passes!!! To make a long story short, we went backstage, met the band,
took some pictures, watched the show, + then waited around for Jonny to come out
of his trailer after the show like he said he would. But he didn't, + we were
about to go home when a guy came out of his trailer + told us Jonny wanted us
to go in. So we did, + talked to him for about half an hour, + let me just say
that he is just a completely normal guy! Drinking beer, smoking a cigarrette,
talking about how he plays scrabble w/ his mom whenever he's home... He was really
sweet, + I hope that they come back to play in Charlotte again + don't wait a year
this time!!!

~he gets his "kewl" clothes from thrift stores
~the 1st time he played barefoot it was in honor of one of his role models that
had just passed away, then he kept playing that way b/c it feels good
~he doesn't play barefoot anymore, after being shocked + nearly electricuted
many times
~besides guitar, he is also into piano, drums, bass, saxophone, and classical
strings
~his glasses are perscription, not for fashion
~he graduated high school in december after being tutored (he says his tutor
wasn't very good + just wanted to play golf all the time)
~he doesn't have his driver's liscense b/c he doesn't have time, but he was
driving tractors on their farm at 10 y/o!
~he hasn't had any formal vocal training, but he says the one thing he does to
try to take care of his voice is not smoking
~his all-time biggest musical influence comes from Stevie Wonder
~he can't read music, he plays by ear
~the sticker on his wood looking guitar is a picture of a girl from the '50s in
lingerie (that's the one of the one he used when I went to his concerts, it
kinda looks like Marilyn Monroe)
~the tattoo on his shoulder is the Mayan calendar
~his mom sings backup on "Lie to Me", + one of his sisters is also in the music
biz
~"I got sick of my long hair...choking on it when I would play on stage"
~faves: sport=golf, animal=spider monkey, color=reddish orange, subject=science
(least fave subject=math), song="They Won't Go When I Go" by Stevie Wonder
~"knowing you have people @ home awaiting your return makes it feel not so far
away" (on touring + homesickness)
~"I performed barefoot untill I got a huge splinter in my foot...2 hows in a row
and I thought I shouldn't do this anymore; most of the time I wear shoes now"
~he tours w/ 4 guitars; his fave is his orange Fender Telecaster
~"I think I'd be a terrible actor...wouldn't be a good time because of my touring"
(on doing another movie)
~he has a cat named Yoda
~1st blues he ever heard: Albert King's Blues Power Record, "Watermelon Man"
~"I like wearing bell bottoms + big weird shirts" (on the clothes he likes)
~"mushrooms, ham, lots of cheese, + onions" (what he likes on pizza)
~he likes to play acoustic guitar @ home, but prefers electric on stage
~"I get embarrassed when I hear or see myself; I'm easily embarrassed"
~"Wander This World" was "mostly cut live in the studio with all the musicians
playing at once"
~"I got my 1st guitar for my 13th birthday; it was the greatest gift ever
~while opening for Aerosmith in Minneapolis, he spilled water on the stage +
slipped + flipped onto his back!!! that's gotta suck!
~"Just listen to your favorite guitar players...if you get to the point where
you can play along with them and you can build off of that" (advice for new
guitarists)
