Leslie scurried around to get the next five costumes ready. Only 2 minutes until the guys would all rush under the stage to change. It was always crazy during costume changes. There were people running around everywhere. The guys would always lose a shirt or a shoe. And the screams of the crowd never added much ease to all the chaos. But Leslie loved her job. And she thanked Nick every day for getting it for her. While the usual costume girl, Angie, was on leave, Leslie was filling in.
Leslie had known Nick all her life. Even when they were little, she would pick out his clothes for him. Though he never did listen to her and would wear that army shirt anyway. But that was Nick, and she still loved him like a brother. Leslie had been an only child when she moved in next to the Carter’s back in ’87. The first day she was there, Nick had come to introduce himself along with his little sister BJ. Leslie was happy to see that there was another little girl in the neighborhood. But later to her surprise, her and Nick were the two that became best friends. Besides…who else could always beat him at Nintendo.
Leslie’s train of thought was broken as five guys rushed to her for their clothes. They all changed real fast as Leslie helped Nick attach his vest. She hooked on the shoulder pads and patted him on the back. “You’re all ready Mr. Carter!” Nick smiled and kissed Leslie on the cheek.
The other guys looked at them, “ooooohhh!! We saw that!” Nick and Leslie just laughed.
“You should see what we do when you guys aren’t looking.” Leslie laughed as the other guys all got big smiles on their face. Nick had always been the comedian.
As the band finished the break music, all the guys once again ran back on the stage. Leslie went over to the racks to get ready for the next costume change. She thought about Nick’s kiss, and just smiled again to herself. Kevin’s wife Kristin walked over to her, “Hey you, I saw that.”
Leslie’s face turned red, “What?”
“You and Carter…I see it in your eyes girl, you like him.” Kristin winked at Leslie and walked away.
Leslie yelled behind her, “We’re just friends!” And they were just friends. Nick was like a brother to Leslie…she didn’t like him that way. As she thought to herself some more, she just couldn’t get the feel of his lips on her out of her mind. What was wrong with her? Nick was her best friend. They were like Dawson and Joey. Then Leslie remembered something….those two ended up liking each other. They actually dated. But that was just TV, this was real life. She didn’t like him that way she told herself again. She didn't....
