Full-Sized Jeeps
The Full-Sized Jeep family consists of Wagoneers 1963-1983, Grand Wagoneers 1984-1991, SJ Cherokees 1974-1983, Gladiator and J-series pickups 1963-1987, and the military version M-715s. The Willys wagon and pickup series, although not technically FSJs, are also accepted in this group. These Jeeps are very versatile and fun to own and drive, especially when they run properly which is close to never. They are also very difficult to find certain parts for and products for upgrades. People ask me why I put so much money and time into my Jeep and how I can have that much patience. My answer, "Its a Jeep thing you wouldn't understand.". Pictured right is Jerry Manning's 1983 J-10 Laredo, "Blaknblu". | |||||||||||||
Cherokee Chief
The Cherokee Chief package became avialable in 1975 on the model 17 Cherokees. The regular model 17 Cherokees are identical in every detail, minus a few minor extras available with the Chief package. The model 17 with or without the Chief package differed from the model 16 Cherokee in that they came with W/T or wide-track axles and fender flares. This allows for larger tires without as much lift needed to clear them on a N/T or narrow-track model 16 or 18(four-door). The Wagoneer, since it's introduction in 1963 through 1983 and the Grand Wagoneer, since it's introduction in 1984 through its end in 1991, had the same body style except the W/T axles and flares and they had four doors like the model 18 Cherokee. Most Chiefs came with the 360cid 8 cyl engine, while some had a six cylinder and others had a beastly 401cid. From 1975 through 1978(I think) the Chiefs came with either a 4-speed manual or the TH-400 Chevy made 3-speed automatic tranny. In 1979 the automatic changed to a T-727 Chrysler made automatic. When I have more time I put more information up here. This is a picture of my 1977 Cherokee Chief WT.
