Dakota
1995-2002
My faithful companion of seven years
Your passing brings me many tears
And though my heart aches for a while
Your memory still can bring a smile.
The clicking of your little paws,
On kitchen floor....
Your cold wet nose...
The way you'd comfort if I cried
The funny way you'd run and hide,
From glugging of your water bowl.
Your friendship surely soothed my soul.
And though I'll miss you all my days,
Your memory still within me stays.
Close to my heart you'll always be
Not just my pet, my family.

Dakota was adopted from an animal shelter in Yulee Florida in June of 1995. My husband was in the military and a puppy was the perfect thing to keep me from feeling so lonely during my husbands frequent absences. I fell in love with Dakota at first sight and I think the feeling was mutual. The people at the shelter said he had already been adopted and returned once because the previous owner discovered he was allergic to Dakotas fluffy hair. It was meant to be for him to come home with us. Dakota and I were inseperable, he even accompanied me on many trips to North Carolina to visit my hometown. Everyone who met him fell in love with him and wanted to take him home. He was full of a personality all his own. For seven years he was my trusted confidant and friend. He always seemed to be in tune with my feelings, always knew when I needed comforting. When my husband and I came home from work one day to find that Dakota had passed away we were crushed. We never got to say goodbye to our sweet furbaby but I believe he knew how much we loved him and I hope I made him as happy in those seven years as he made me. I will keep his memory alive with me always.
