Just wanted to say thanks for a great site you have. My wife and I are
always searching out info on the 44th Co G. Her G-G-grandfather was
William M Nix of Co. G. We found out in the past two years that he
was buried in Richmond, Va at Hollywood Cemetery where we had a
Confederate marker put upon his resting place. My son recently sent
me the Yankee account of the battle/skirmish at the South Anna Bridge.
It's a Yankee report given by the 11th Pennsylvania Cavalry Regiment
108th Volunteers. Looks like it's at the following site if you want
 to check it out....

Subject : Your 44th NC webpage

Hi, my name is James Wilmoth.  I just came across your
webpage on the 44th NC.  Thank you for maintaining
their history.  I really enjoyed seeing the
 information organized so well.

One of my Civil War ancestors is Pvt William Nix of
the 44th NC Co G, the same as your great grandfather.
My other ancestors were in the Halifax Rifles of the
 3rd VA Infantry.

I'm writing for a few reasons...to inquire if you have
any information on the Aug-Sept 1864 time frame.  I'm
fairly certain that my ancestor (Nix) was wounded in
or around the Bloody Angle at Spotsylvania Courthouse.
I do not know what happened after his release from
the hospital on July 4th, 1864.  Do you have any info
on a Company G skirmish or battle on Sept 2nd or 5th
of 1864?  He was reported KIA on both of those days by
different sources.  It's after Reams Station, that's
all I know.  Also, do you have any images of the
 regiment?

My final reason for writing is to offer help for your
effort as best as I can.  The only 44th NC related
info I have are papers documenting Nix's enlistment,
capture, wounding, KIA, and turnover of personal
 items.

Listed below are a few links that relate to the 44th
 NC and/or Company G:

This one is Pvt Stewart's (of Company G) history and

NC Rosters, excludes 22nd NC and has a bad link for
 the 44th...

This page has very detailed accounts for the Battles
of the Wilderness and Spotsylania Courthouse.

This guy has tons of NC related information and links.

Thanks again for maintaining your page.  If you need
anything that I may be able to provide, feel free to
 email me.
