Chapter Eight

Rayanne rested her head against the seat. She was almost there. This plane was more comfortable than the first one, which was good because she was on this one for a long time; but she liked the attendants on the first flight a lot better. She had been on this plane for over 6 hours. She had talked to Nick on the phone for a few minutes and on the computer for a while. She listened to music, read a magazine, and a little bit of her book. She was exhausted, but she was too excited to sleep.

She picked up her phone and dialed Nick’s number. He answered on the second ring.

“Hello?”

“Hey sexy.” she replied.

“How much longer, do ya know?”

“No, I don’t even know what time it is. I’m just tired and bored. I need to get some sleep, so I called to ask you for a favor.”

“A favor, huh? You’re gonna owe me so much when you get here” he laughed.

“Oh, don’t you worry...you’re gonna get everything you could ever want.”

“Mmm...OK, I’ll do the favor. What is it?”

“I want you to sing me to sleep.”

“OK. Lay back, close your eyes and sleep sweetie. Leave everything else up to me.”

“I plan on it.” she smiled.

She leaned her head against the pillow she had asked for and closed her eyes. She positioned the phone so it lay on her ear without her having to hold it.

“Ready baby.” she said sleepily.

“Open up your heart to me, and say what’s on your mind. I know we have been through so much pain, but I still need you in my life this time. And I need you tonight, I need you right now. I know deep within my heart, it doesn’t matter if it’s wrong or right...I really need you tonight. I figured out what to say to you, mmm, sometimes the words, they come out so wrong. I know in time that you will understand, that what we have is so right.”

“Ahhh...thank you so much sweetie.” Rayanne whispered half asleep.

“Shh, just listen.” Nick whispered back.

He began singly softly again, Rayanne drifting closer to sleep.

“All I know is baby...I really need you tonight.” he finished the song.

He knew Rayanne was either sleeping or getting there quickly by her breathing, but he kept singing anyway.

“It’s not that I can’t live without you, it’s just that I don’t even want to try. Every night I dream about you, ever since the day you said goodbye.”

He paused for a moment, trying to tell if she was sleeping. He heard her stir, so he kept singing.

“If I wasn’t such a fool, right now I’d be holding you, there’s nothing that I wouldn’t do, baby if I only knew the words to say, the road to take to find a way back to your heart...”

Nick stopped when he thought he heard Rayanne say ‘I love you’ quietly. He listened, but he heard nothing else.

“Let me prove my love is real and make you feel the way I feel. I promise I would give the world...”

Those were the last words Rayanne heard before she drifted off to sleep and slept the rest of the way to London.
