Lived with Indonesian family in Manado, North Sulawesi. Studied Indonesian language intensivley. Researched local perceptions of the separation of Gorontalo from North Sulawesi province. After the program: traveled via boat to South Sulawesi.

Indonesia - School for International Training's College Semester Abroad in Bali [Winter and Spring 1997]

Lived with families in Jakarta and Bali. Studied Indonesian language, mask-making, history, and religion. Researched the state of the Internet in Bali. After the program: traveled to Lombok, Sumbawa, Flores and Java.

France - Friends Select School Foreign Exchange Program [Spring 1992]

Attended high school classes and lived with a family in Dole, France. Upon return: hosted my former host brother.

India - Kodaikanal International School; Seva Nilayam Health Clinic [Winter and Spring 1986]

Studied one term in international English-language school in India. Lived at a rural health clinic. Traveled with family.

GROUP LEADERSHIP / VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES

Co-Chair - East-West Center Education Council and Representative - East-West Center Participants Association, Honolulu, HI [Fall 2000 – Winter 2002]

Worked with students and administrators to plan educational programs, build community, coordinate newsletter, work on recycling campaigns, etc.

Literacy Tutor - Cambridge Literacy Project, Cambridge, MA [Fall 1999 - Summer 2000]

Developed a lesson plan and instructed a Moroccan woman in reading and writing English.

Volunteer - Peace and Economic Security Program, American Friends Service Committee, Cambridge, MA [Fall 1998 - Fall 2000]

Studied economic and military relations, especially with regard to Asia-Pacific affairs. Proofread papers. Helped organize meetings, public events. Created new Web pages. Served on the committee overseeing the program.
