Frequently Asked Questions updated September 15th, 2000
Q: As of the end of Summer 2000, rumour has it that Glow as Ember broke up. Any truth to this? |
A: With the advent of the ever so popular Instant Messenger and MSN, I am surprised how fast rumours have spread about the demise of Glow. As many know, H. was steadfast in breaking the summer record for most national indie shows in Grafton, ND(previous record: 0) not to mention his promotional/recruiting tour for H.'s Cellar to Dallas, TX and Southern California all of August. With the sudden 'success' of the Cellar as well as Ben Ditzer leaving for College, many had thought this was the end of the Glow crew. Sorry to disappoint you, we're still around to create more confusion and to suck up more promoter's dollars. |
Q: So, if the break up isn't true, who is in the new Glow as Ember? |
A: I am happy the present to you, Derek Paulson and Luke Bredeson formerly of Langdon's Anker7 into the lineup. Heather and new addition Angie 'Glow' Fladland will be sharing vocal duties and H. remains on guitar in the same capacity as before. Ben Ditzer's spot will not be filled until this line-up is stabilized. In some peculiar way, it's kind of flattering that people even cared or discussed about a break up....Glow as Ember the ever controversial band. |
Q: Where does the name Glow as Ember stem from? |
A: The group's name originates from the song, "Fall" by Emo-punk band Static Rug. In terms of a spiritual meaning, it's an honest representation of what state our 'hearts' and its ineffectiveness tugs at our being to be at for the Creator despite the frequent dependancy for it for life's guidance. "Hearts of passion glow as ember." Obviously that's not what we desire and want our being to always be passionate and on fire. Anyway, "Flaming Hearts" just doesn't have the same ring to it! |
Q: Will fans be able to obtain a release of the band's music? |
A: Unless you are a relative or concert venue, apparently no. Like many young bands trying to take flight, the majority of time and effort is spent understanding one anothers musical/internal strengths, weaknesses, and tendancies and hopefully play to one's current strengths. We are no different. Talks exists of utilizing our quarterly pre-producton recordings and release a collage of sound from the best material available- more so for documentation purposes and analyze where we've been and where we feel lead to go. But as for an official release, look no sooner than June 2000. |
Q: Does Glow as Ember have a drummer? |
A: No, despite the group possessing two members who play or have played drums in High School pep bands, the band once again finds it more important to first mesh as a three piece than to offset the chemistry by adding another member. Fundamentally sound drummers come few and far between in rural North Dakota. The group plans to utilize guest drummers for studio/live sessions until the proper opportunity and time lends itself in finding a permanant percussionist. PJ Tangedahl is currently assisting in this area. In addition, drum machines decrease the rate of hearing loss. by up to 50% |
Q: Where is Glow as Ember headquarters? |
A: "H." and Benjamin are both from Grafton, ND area. This is about 2 hours north of Fargo. Heather resides on a farm house just fifteen minutes north of Grafton in a town called St.Thomas. Practice time is usually done at the old Telephone building, now known as 'The Cellar' |
Q: Does "H." stand for anything? |
A: Yes, it does but prefers his birth name be used strictly by his computer clientele and new acquantances outside of the musical field only. |
Q: How would you describe the band's sound to someone who never heard them before? |
A: Glow as Ember is an Emotional Romance-core band with influences that range from bands like Brandtson, Mineral, Appleseed Cast, and Sixpence None the Richer in addition to bands like Roadside Monument and Starflyer 59. Vocally, groups such as Strike Force and Sixpence None the Richer come to mind- soothing and convicting. The music ranges from distortion driven technical structures reminicscent of the East Coast Emo sound and then to the simplistic straight ahead indie rock. The term Emo should be downplayed here though for if the music one writes isn't emotional nor heartfelt, why bother calling it music? Musically and lyrically, the members encourage one another to just let the creative juices flow and see what time allows in solidifying a form into something that each member can enjoy. |
Q: Where can I see Glow as Ember in concert? |
A: We primarily play Minnesota/North Dakota venues but have stretched out to South Dakota and Manitoba as well. Other prospects are Regina, SK in April 2000 and the Level Ground festival in late July. We also hope to be involved in the Southern Manitoba circuit which includes venues in Winnipeg, Brandon, Winkler, Altona, and Morris as well as the host band for future H.'s Cellar events. Our distant goal is to prime ourselves up for the Sonshine Festival in Bushnell, Illinois. |
