Frequently Asked Question

Q: I HEARD THERE WAS A WAY TO INCREASE THE MONEY A SIM HAS. HOW CAN I DO THAT?
A: At any time during the game (paused or not), hit CTRL+SHIFT+C at the same time. A box appears in the upper left corner. Then type in "rosebud", and hit ENTER. Your Sim instantly gets $1,000! If you type in something like "rosebud;!;!;!" he'll get $4,000 (the ";!" tells the computer to perform the same cheat code over again)!!

Q: WHY DOESN'T MY SIM SPEAK ENGLISH?
A: Your Sim speaks a language called Simese, and only other Sims can understand it. Some theorists believe that if you listen to Sims talk long enough, you start to hear english words in there; this has never been proven. It's not a glitch in the game, the Sims only speak Simese.

Q: IS THERE ANY WAY TO "KILL" MY SIMS OFF? MY SIM IS MARRIED, AND MY SIM DOESN'T LIKE HER.
A: This is one of the more morbid Q's to come my way, and I don't personally like to give away "The Dark Side Of The Sims", but oh well. The best way I found to kill one is to build a structure that is 2 square long by 1 square wide. No windows, and only one door. No lights, nothing. Then, you "direct" a Sim to go into that structure. When they do, simply remove the door, and they're trapped inside that building. Then, it's only a slow and agonizing death for them, as all of their stats drop to red.

Q: HOW CAN I GET MY SIM TO GO OVER TO A NEIGHBOR'S HOUSE TO VISIT? THE NEIGHBORS COME OVER ALL THE TIME, BUT I CAN NEVER GO TO THEM.
A: This is sort of a gray area for the Sims, because "technically", you can go to a friend's house. Only, not while playing the game with that Sim. You see, when you play a Sim, it's treated as if it is "grounded", and therefore can't leave the yard (except in cases of work). However, if you switch to another family, you can call the Sim you just played and invite him/her over. So, if SimChelsae wanted to go over to SimMandy's house, then you'd have to play the SimMandy game, and invite SimChelsae over.

Q: I JUST DOWNLOADED A BUNCH OF COOL STUFF FROM www.((insert website name here)).com, AND I DON'T KNOW HOW TO INSERT IT INTO THE GAME. HOW DO I DO THAT?
A: Ah, this is where a FAQ page comes in handy! Where it all goes depends on what you have downloaded, but chances are it's tucked away in a ZIP file. You'll need WinZip in order to open them up (you can get the latest version at WinZip.com). When you're ready to, double click on the ZIP file, and open it. Then, I'd use CTRL+A to Extract All of the components in the file. This will bring up the Unzip window, where you'll have to map where the stuff has to go. This is always started out as "C:/Program Files/Maxis/The Sims/GameData", then it'll branch, depending on what needs to be inserted. Objects always go into either Downloads or Objects (they have an .iff ending to them), Walls into the Wall file, Floors into Floor, and so on. The only tricky part is when you get into .bin files, and I leave them alone for now.

Q: I NOTICED A LOT OF PEOPLE MAKING THEIR OWN OBJECTS. HOW CAN I DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT?
A: First off, I highly recommend downloading two items, Transmogrifier, and Blueprint. You can use the search engine on my Links page to obtain them. Then, from there, you pretty much have to tinker with them to get them to do what you want. Object-making for the Sims has become a form of art, and it's awesome to see some of the stuff that people have made. I have just started tinkering with these two, which is why my Downloads page still remains empty.

Q: MY GAME KEEPS FREEZING UP ON ME! WHY IS IT DOING THAT, AND HOW CAN I GET IT TO STOP??
A: First off, make sure that any Anti-Virus program you have is disabled, or turned off. Now, hit CTRL+ALT+Delete. See all of those other "programs" that are currently running? Those need to be shut down, EXCEPT "Explorer" and "Systray" If that doesn't solve the problem, I suggest going to The Sims Official Website, and getting technical help from there (I'd be here all day typing what could be solutions to the problem.
