Sylphiel tossed and turned in her sleep, restless
for some strange reason. Images of an evil force flashed through her mind,
all the more real to the young shrine maiden. She screamed and sat up,
her eyes opening upon a room which was dimly lit from the lights outside
her room. She hugged the covers tighter around her body, which was trembling
from the shock and the evil forces around the campus.
'What kind of evil force has come here?'
she asked herself as she rose from her bed and turned on the lights. She
was fortunate enough to get a single room so she could practice her healing
spells without worrying anybody and also wouldn't worry or wake anybody
else by turning the lights on. She opened her closet and took out her tunic,
cape, and boots, as well as the pair of tights she wore beneath them. She
dressed quickly, taking her crystal wand from a drawer in her dresser before
grabbing her keys and student ID and leaving her room. She took the stairs
up to the roof, breaking the lock with a monobolt. Once on the roof she
held her crystal wand before her and concentrated.
'Great spirits of light, show me where
the evil that has poisoned the land is located,' she chanted in her
mind, the crystal glowing. A great wave of force struck her, knocking her
from her feet. She struggled to sit upright and, grasping the wand, looked
in it to see the entire campus, minus a couple of smaller spots, glow with
dark energy. "Oh my," she gasped, "this is not good."
Sylphiel re-entered the building in a cat
like manner, moving silently through the halls until she returned to her
room. She picked up the emerald green cordless phone and dialed the number
for Alison and Alyssa. Moments later a pair of voices answered.
"Hello," two sleepy female voices said.
"Alison, Alyssa, it's Sylphiel," the shrine
maiden said as quietly as she could, "there's trouble throughout the campus."
"What is it this time?" Alison asked.
"Yeah, just how bad is it?" Alyssa added,
obviously a little irritated.
"It's big," Sylphiel said, "let the others
know that they should keep an eye out for anything strange and to be alert."
"Sure thing," Alison said, yawning, "right
now we're going back to bed."
"But..... " Sylphiel began to say, but met
silence and then a dial tone. She sighed, opened the blinds on her window
and looked out at the campus, which was still cloaked in night.
The following morning Sylphiel met Dennis,
Jordan, Mike, and Gourry for breakfast. The shrine maiden looked like somebody
beat her senseless with the ugly stick that morning.
"Woah, Sylphiel, are you sick?" Gourry asked,
noting the air of ill being around his friend.
"No Gourry dear," Sylphiel sighed, chugging
a cup of coffee before refilling it, "I just didn't sleep well last night."
"Alison and Alyssa filled us in on that,"
Dennis said, stuffing a pancake into his mouth.
"What kind of evil is it?" Mike asked, "The
Negaverse? The Angels? More Mazoku?"
"I'm not sure," Sylphiel said, "it's big.
That's all I know. The only places not touched by it are our rooms."
"Which we might tack up to the anti - evil
charms that Rei Hino gave us," Jordan said, digging in on a large helping
of hash browns.
"I'm starting to notice something out of the
ordinary," Gourry said, causing the other four to start looking around
the room. All the men had either shaved their heads completely bald or
had cut their hair incredibly close to their heads. As for the women, their
hair was either shoulder length, close cropped, or pulled up in a bun.
"This certainly is strange," Dennis said,
half of a sausage falling from the end of his fork.
"You said it," Jack said, pulling up a seat.
Nate and Josh joined him. "Most of the guys on our floor shaved their hair
off during the night so that the bathroom looked like a poor excuse for
a barber shop."
"Any word from Alison and Alyssa?" Josh asked.
"We're here," came from behind. Everyone turned
to see the duo dressed in their sailor uniforms.
"What's up?" Nate asked moments before a creepy
vibe caused the hair on the back of his neck to stand on end. "The army
of darkness is behind us, isn't it?"
"Oh yeah," Sylphiel said, standing on her
chair and casting a major protection spell around them. the other people
in the dining room stood and turned towards the heroes, their eyes glowing
red as they advanced.
"We can't avoid this any longer," Dennis said,
taking out his transformation pen, "Scorpio Nova Power!"
"Ganymede Nova Power!"
"Io Nova Power!"
"Europa Nova Power!"
"Moon Eclipse Power!"
"X Nova Power!"
There were six flashes of light as the warriors
transformed. Once they finished they drew their weapons and prepared for
a brawl. Sylphiel dropped the barrier and a battle royal ensued.
"Let's get 'em!" Nate said, throwing punches
left and right and not connecting with any targets. The possessed people,
on the other hand, punched, kicked, and bit Nate repeatedly.
"Eat shockwave!" Sailor Phobos said, flapping
her arms until a pair of high pressure pockets formed. She grasped the
pockets and slammed them together before her body, creating a massive shockwave
which mowed down a wave of men and women, which was quickly replaced by
two more waves.
"Deimos Tornado Strike!" Sailor Deimos shouted,
a large tornado funnel forming in the middle of the room, sucking people
up and spitting them across the room.
"Did you notice anything different about their
clothes?" Jack asked, blocking people's blows with the flat side of his
sword.
"They're all wearing dress blues of some sort,"
Gourry said, using a table as a shield.
"That can't be possible," Josh said, holding
the crowd back with the staff part of his hammer.
"That would mean that the evil power's centered
around Zais hall," Mike said, "which is a major problem."
"We're not getting anywhere," Dennis said,
throwing chairs in the path of the oncoming army, "Sylphiel, can't you
do something to break the hold of possession?"
"I can try," Sylphiel said, holding her crystal
wand before her, "Flow Break!"
A giant magic circle formed on the floor of
the room, zapping the possessed people with mystic energy. As the people
dropped to the floor dark clouds escaped from each person, rising up and
vanishing. Once all the people were dispossessed Sylphiel cut off the spell.
The people slowly woke and regained their feet, wondering what had happened.
"What are we going to do now?" Jack asked
as the people filed out to change into regular clothes, "it's difficult
to cast a really big Flow Break over the campus."
"We get Derek and Tod and then do a full out
assault on Zais hall," Jordan said, taking out his communicator. He punched
the buttons for FireStar and Pluto and moments later two voices, one wide
awake, the other half asleep, said, "Yeah."
"Guys, this is Jordan. Meet us at the Union
Building's tv lounge as soon as possible. This is very important. We have
a new evil to defeat."
"You want to do WHAT?!" Derek exclaimed. It
was half an hour later and the group was meeting at the new location.
"A full out frontal assault on Zais Hall?"
Tod said, rubbing his chin with deep thought, "Are you sure that's wise?"
"We don't really have much choice," Sylphiel
said, fidgeting with her wand, "the evil energies are coming from that
one certain hall and if we take it out the energy will dissipate."
Derek looked at all the people who walked
past and sighed with longing for a set of dress blues. He shifted his look
to one of determination and said, "Let's do this!"
"You're going to need a high level spell caster,
since Lina and Alex aren't here," came from the entrance. Everyone looked
in the general direction to see a young man dressed in green cargo pants,
dark brown boots, black chest armor with a green under tunic, black shoulder
armor, black tipless gloves, and a black and green cape. Attached to his
belt were several pouches of varying sizes and a scabbard of brown leather
which housed a broad sword.
"I can see that Alex and Jason are away,"
he said, "go figure."
"Aren't you Tony Booth?" Alison and Alyssa
asked, their eyes turning to hearts. Dennis and Jack sighed and both said,
"They're hopeless."
"What kind of spells can you cast Mister Tony?"
Sylphiel asked.
"A wide array of Shamanist and White magic
spells, plus a few of the stronger Black magic spells," Tony said.
"Anything near the power of the Dragon Slave
or the Giga Slave?" Gourry asked.
"I know both of those plus the Laguna Blade
and Blast Bomb."
Sylphiel, who was usually calm and composed,
leapt across the room, grabbed Tony by the front of his tunic, and shouted,
"How is it possible for somebody to know spells that only Lina and Alex
can cast with any ease?!"
"Please excuse her," Gourry said, grabbing
a kicking and screaming Sylphiel and throwing her over his shoulder, "she's
really tired and wired on caffeine."
"Are we going to go and get rid of this evil
or are we going to sit around all day?" Mike asked, standing up and slamming
his hands on the table he had been seated at.
"We go and kick some butt!" Dennis said, hoisting
his transformation pen into the air, "Scorpio Nova Power!"
"FireStar Nova Power!"
"Pluto Super Nova Power!"
"Moon Eclipse Power!"
"X Nova Power!"
"Mars United Moon Power!"
"Ganymede Nova Power!"
"Europa Nova Power!"
"Io Nova Power!"
Once the Warriors and twin senshi transformed
they, along with Tony and the two slayers, charged out of the entertainment
center and the basement of the union building, only to confront an army
of possessed students.
"How do we get by them without hurting them?"
Gourry asked. He got his answer fast enough though the spell that Tony
cast.
"Buh Dai... WIND!!"
Gale force winds swept through the area, blowing
a path through the army of possessed people. The Warriors drew their weapons
and ran like the wind, making it to the other side of the crowd before
the rift was closed. They ran into more resistance in the woods in the
form of heavily armed students.
"Eat blazing death!" one girl shouted, pulling
the trigger on the rocket launcher she carried. The rocket whizzed by Sylphiel's
head, barely missing. As the missile exploded behind her, Sylphiel cast
Burst Rondo, blasting a path through the students, which was quickly filled
in by more students, who were equipped with semi - automatic rifles. Streams
of bullets ripped through the hair, sending the fighters of justice scattering.
"Up we go," Nate said, leaping from branch
to branch in the trees. He moved so fast and easy that one would have believed
he belonged in the trees.
"And around we go," Jack said, flipping through
the air and rebounding off of the trees while sailing over the heads of
the students below.
"This isn't my idea of fun," Gourry said,
dodging hails of bullets.
"Time Stop!" Derek shouted, rays of light
shining from the garnate orb in his staff. The students and the bullets
froze in place as the surrounding area turned gray. Derek turned to the
others and said, "Hurry up and get moving. This effect lasts for just a
few moments."
The group made their way through the frozen
bullets and the throng of armed students, eventually re grouping on the
other side. Once they were back together they took to the air, flying over
a couple of the larger buildings before landing about one hundred meters
from Zais hall. Here they encountered a wave of the stronger students,
all equipped with riot gear.
"Oh, give me a break," Sylphiel said, taking
on Lina's personality.
"Give up and you won't be hurt.... much,"
one of the larger men said, advancing towards Sylphiel, a night stick in
hand. Gourry stepped in between the man and Sylphiel, his sword in hand.
"Don't you dare touch her," he said. The man
swung the night stick, meeting with the sword in a shower of sparks. The
man reached behind his back and pulled out a second night stick, which
he brought down on Gourry's head. Gourry stepped back, a little dazed,
which allowed the man to beat Gourry senseless. The swordsman went down
for the count a moment later.
"Gourry!" Sylphiel cried before turning her
attention to the man. "How dare you hurt Gourry," she snarled, forming
an immense sphere of flames above her head, "now you shall pay. FIREBALL!"
Sylphiel lobbed the fireball at the man, catching
him in the chest. The fireball exploded, engulfing him and burning him
to a cinder. Once the man was out of the way she turned her attention to
Gourry.
"Are you ok Gourry dear?" she asked, kneeling
next to him.
"Yeah, I think," Gourry said, shaking the
stars from his head, "but why does the rain in Spain sit mainly on the
plain?"
"He's going to be just fine," Derek said,
stepping to the front, the garnate orb in his staff glowing, "Dead Scream."
A ringed sphere of violet energy formed at
the end of the staff, which he hurled at the group of people before them.
The attack struck in the center of the group, releasing a sonic blast which
mowed down a large portion of the group.
"Breaking Monolith!" Josh shouted, smashing
his hammer into the ground. Large slabs of stone rose from the ground before
them and crashed down, forming a wall to block the advancing army for a
short time.
Tony took Sylphiel's hand at this point and
said, "are you read to set all this right?"
"I'm as ready as I'll ever be," Sylphiel said,
producing her crystal wand.
"Then let's do this," Tony said, turning to
Nate. "Can you give us an air lift?"
"My pleasure," Nate said, forming a sphere
of wind energy between his palms, "Diem Wing!"
The sphere exploded into a powerful gust of
wind, which caught Tony and Sylphiel in the backs and hurled them into
the air. Once airborne Tony cast a Levitation spell, taking them higher
until they reached the top of Morse Hall, which overlooked their target.
Tony set Sylphiel down before landing himself.
"What do we do now Mister Tony?" Sylphiel
asked.
"You're going to prove how powerful you are,"
Tony said.
"But my black magic needs work."
From below came cries of anguish as the army
broke through the wall and began attacking the Warriors, the twin senshi,
and Gourry, who screamed above all the chaos, "SYLPHIEL!"
"Gourry dear," Sylphiel cried.
"DO IT!"
"All right," she said, turning towards the
building which housed the dark force. She began to go through the motions
for a spell.
"Darkness beyond twilight, crimson beyond
blood that flows. Buried in the stream of time is where your power grows.
I pledge myself to conquer all the foes who stand against the mighty gift
bestowed in my unworthy hands. Let the fools who stand before me be destroyed
by the power you and I possess. Dragon SLAVE!"
Sylphiel cast the strongest black magic spell
she knew, the strongest "common" spell, the spell she had seen Lina and
Alex use many times in the past; the Dragon Slave. The beam of dark energy
struck Zais hall, only to be deflected toward the heavens by a magic shield.
When Sylphiel saw this she became incredibly upset, which caused a rise
in her power level. This rise unlocked the remaining spells in her knowledge,
among them the full version of Alex's Storm Striker.
"I get one more chance before I need to recharge,"
she said to nobody in particular, "and I bet everything on this attack."
Sylphiel held her hands above her head, her
palms should width apart and facing. She closed her eyes and began to chant
the spell.
"Never underestimate the destructive power
of nature, for what may be beautiful one minute can become destructive
the next. I call upon the forces of thunder and lightning, wind and rain,
to strike down all those who dare to oppose me. Goddess of the sky, deliver
your smiting blow. Storm STRIKER!"
As she screamed the last part, a large sphere
of aqua energy formed between her hands. A beam of light emerged from the
sphere and pierced the sky. Around this point storm clouds gathered, almost
black as pitch around the central point. The wind began to kick up, rain
coming down in sheets. Lightning tore across the sky, the bolts concentrating
into a single point before one giant bolt ripped the sky wide open and
struck Zais hall, shattering the shield and striking the small tower before
the spell ended. Sylphiel collapsed to her knees a moment later, gasping
for air.
"Damnit," she gasped, "I gave it my all and
it wasn't enough."
"You did manage to crack the shield," Tony
said, helping Sylphiel to her feet and acting like a human crutch, "you
just need some time to recharge."
"But our friends are getting pounded," she
said, looking over at the mob scene. As she said that an attack parted
the army.
"Deimos Tornado Strike!"
When the dust that was kicked up by the attack
finally settled, Sailors Phobos and Deimos stood in the clearing with the
other Warriors and Gourry recovering from their attack.
"Gourry dear!" Sylphiel exclaimed.
"Sylphiel, finish it off," Gourry shouted
back.
"I'm out of power!"
"I can help," Tony said, reaching into a pouch
and pulling out a red stone, which he gave to Sylphiel.
"What is this?" Sylphiel asked, gazing at
the stone.
"It's called materia. It'll allow you to summon
an esper to attack for you."
"How do I use it?"
"Call upon a creature who is powerful and
will be loyal to you."
Sylphiel stood up, held the stone to the sky,
and shouted, "Holy warrior of light, come forth and beat back the darkness.
Angemon!"
A giant angel appeared in a flash of light,
charging its fist with holy energy before punching forward and releasing
the energy. The beam struck Zais Hall, breaking it down until it exploded
in a flash of blackness. The angel turned to the students and cast a Flow
Break spell on them, reversing the possession. Once its mission was finished
the angel vanished.
"Good choice of an esper," Tony said, casting
a levitation spell.
"Thank you Mister Tony," Sylphiel said, taking
hold of Tony's hand as they descended to the ground, "I never thought of
what I would have for an esper until a voice in my mind told me what to
say for my summons."
"Sylphiel," Gourry said, running to where
the pair landed. He lifted her above his head and spun her around, "You
were wonderful!"
"Gourry," Sylphiel sighed. She turned green
a moment later. "Gourry, unless you put me down I'll honk all over you."
As Gourry and Sylphiel celebrated, Alison
and Alyssa were trying to pick up Tony. The pair had since returned to
wearing their street clothes.
"So, are you free this weekend?" Alison asked,
wrapping herself around Tony's left arm.
"Yeah, you wanna go see a movie or something?"
Alyssa asked, wrapping herself around Tony's right arm.
"Oh boy," Tony sighed, turning red.
"You're so cute," Alison said, her eyes turning
to hearts.
"Yeah, a real hunk and a half," Alyssa said,
her eyes also turning to hearts.
"How come you never throw yourselves at us
like that?" Dennis, Jack, Josh, Mike, and Jordan all asked.
"Because we have to fight along side you all
the time," Alison said, going super deformed.
"And because none of you have such sexy facial
hair," Alyssa added, playing with Tony's beard.
"Kill me now," Tony moaned, a sweat drop forming
on his head.
From where Sylphiel and Gourry stood they
heard Sylphiel say, "Gourry dear, I'm not feeling well, followed by the
sounds of hurling, a sickening splat, and Sylphiel exclaiming, "Oh my word,
I'm so sorry Gourry dear."
"Why me?!" Gourry wailed, his voice echoing
across the land, "Why-hi-hi ME?!"
The End.
