Choosing the Best Man
|
The best man is one of the most important members of the wedding party. Choosing your best man can be difficult if there are many men friends or family that have made an impact on your life. Taking the time to make the right choice could mean the difference between a day of celebration or a day of disaster. |
What's Important: Consider choosing someone who is mature, responsible and considerate of your requests and preferences. Steer away from someone who has a bad attitude or temper, doesn't like your bride, or tends not to follow through with obligations.
Responsibilities:
- plan your bachelor party or work together with the maid of honor to plan your Jack and Jill
- be your confidant
- run errands or make phone calls as needed
- get you to the ceremony safely and on time
- take care of the wedding bands until they are needed at the ceremony
- give the first toast at the reception
- make sure that everything goes as planned at the ceremony and reception unless a wedding coordinator has been hired
- return your rented tuxedo the day after the wedding
A Word on Bachelor Parties:
Once you've made your decision, and after discussing with your fiance, let him know whether your preference is for a bachelor party or a Jack and Jill. If you decide on a bachelor party, define what type of party you'd like to have. There is something to be said for strippers showing up at your bachelor party when you weren't expecting them. To avoid the possible fallout, let your best man know that you would prefer to avoid that type of entertainment.
