One Of The Men

Al Natale The man who is pictured to the left is AL NATALE, he was the door gunner for Stagecoach 332 in the 155th Assault Helocopter Company based at Camp Coryell in Ban Me Thout,Viet Nam '69-'70. In 1999, he provided me with some pictures and news clippings depicting his service in Viet Nam. I looked through pictures of his friends, some who came home, and some who didn't. Pictures of LZ's hot and cold. Pictures of the enemy, fallen or captured, and read news clippings and eyewitness accounts of bravery and heroism. Flying missions averaging close to 14 hours a day,the crew of Stagecoach 332 and the rest of the 155th Assault Helicopter Company kept troops and supplies flowing to Camp Bu Prang and surrounding fire bases under siege by the North Vietnamese, as well
as other areas needing their support. Being interested in what goes through the mind of a kid in situations such as he had been in, I asked Al what it was like to fly into combat day after day. The answer was different than I expected, "I was too young to be afraid of what I was doing." Al answered."If I knew then, what I know now, I would have been terrified."

I have since lost touch with Al Natale and would appreciate it if someone would forward his e-mail address to me at the contact address located at the bottom of this page.

Heroic Actions

Al Natale along with the rest of the Crew of Stagecoach 332 received The Cross of Galantry Medal from the Government of South Vietnam for their efforts in keeping a North Vietnamese attack force from over running a South Vietnamese patrol. Being the only support the patrol had in the area, they stayed with the out-numbered patrol until they had used all their ammunition and extra barrels for the M-60 door guns. Because of the Heroic efforts of the crew of Stagecoach 332, the South Vietnamese patrol was able to make it to safety. The photos at left and center below were taken immediately after the firefight and picture Al Natale displaying a captured AK-47, and some VC ammunition and gear. The photo on the right is of the Cross of Galantry Medal.
