Dear Mr. Cornellier,       Hi, my name is Randy Ouellette.  I used to work at the once sold and torn down park.  Back in the 80's I worked at Wally Whalom, the park clown.  I entertained there with the three other park characters; Super Chick, Silly Savage and Simon Looney Bear.  We did walk-arounds (meet and great the crowds) and shows at the center stage; both contest shows and I performed a magic show.  My friend, Paul LeCuyer, did puppet shows too.      We had a lot of fun and I will miss the park for what it had to offer.  My other great memories of Whalom were some of the other acts that were booked to perform there.  We had a dog act, musicians, jugglers and acrobats.     Thanks for the page and information on Whalom.

Hello Bob.  My name is Pat Curran, and I am formerly from Lunenburg but now reside in Sutton, MA.  I worked at Whalom Park during the summer season for a total of 5 seasons.  It was a great summer job being able to work outside.  In 1971 and 1972, I ran the Shooting Gallery and got paid $1.65 per hour in '71.  The following 3 seasons, I ran the Flyer Comet.  Of course over the 5 seasons I learned to operate all the rides and would fill in where needed.  The Flyer Comet was the best job in the park.  I knew every square inch of that ride!  I operated it, repaired it, and sometimes painted it.  It was probably one of the few remaining coasters with manual brakes.  There were times when it took all of my strength to stop it.  Riders would say "make it go fast."  Sometimes you would get a rider requesting "make it go slow."  I always got a kick out of those requests because once it left the tow chain, it was on its own.  I guess some riders didn't understand how it all worked.  I enjoy looking at your photos, and I am truly saddened that the park is no more.  I took my children there a few times before it closed, and I described to them how each ride worked.  My daughters first ever roller coaster ride was on the Flyer Comet.  She was probably 6 or 7 years old, and it scared her to death.  It would be 5 years before she ever got on another one!  Any how, thanks for the pictures and the memories.  Happy Holidays!
Regards, Pat Curran

Hi Bob,   I Googled and found your site purely by fate. Wow it's great! Alittle depressing, but it brought back a lot of memories. What a shame all the small parks are pretty much gone now. But I have lots of pictures of my family when my kids were little at whalom and Mtn. Park. Do you know what happened to the clown that sat on the bench by the train station? Just curious that's all.   I just can't help but feel a little sad to see it all worn and neglected and gone. You did some really nice work and took some great photos. Thanks for the memories!!!  Gail, West Brookfield MA.

My name is Garet Sims, and I grew up in Lunenburg. I grew up going to Whalom Park, as did my Mom, and even my Grandmother. She often told the story of meeting my Grandfather at the Whalom Park skating rink. \par \par I have been following the state of the park for a few years, and have been saddened by it, but I did not expect the emotion I felt to see the Comet demolished. \par \par The reason I am writing to you is about a picture in your Whalom History page. The one with the family walking in front of the Comet. That is my Grandmother, and three of my Aunts.}

I just wanted to let you know that i have an appreciation for your webpage and it brought a smile to my face as i remebered some of my most cherished childhood memories. I had to go to Leominster Hospital this week to do my clinical rotations for my Paramedic. During a break I decided to take a travel to the old theme park and resurect memories from ashes. As i drove by I couldnt belive the destruction to such a wonderful place, as i was unaware of the demolition that had begun and as i watched them picking up the remains of the park, it seemed like a graveyard of dead memories. It was only 3 months ago i drove by for a visit during my break of interning and looked up at the comet , standing strong over whalom Lake. Well after seeing the destrcution I searched the web and came across your site and found a great appreciation for it, Looking at the pics made me smile and think back to those family spent days. Whalom park was the way an amusement park shouild be, Six flaggs is over rated and is not family oriented, the park will be missed greatly. Thanks again for the great website!

Thank you for the memories, I whatch them tear down the comet today sad, just a different time i guess.   Dave

Thank's for your Whalom Park site.  I happened to see Rick Sebak's Great Old Amusement Parks show (made in 1999) on PBS last night, which had Whalom Park.  I had remembered going there in the early 1970s so I Googled around for a website today.  I was very sad to learn that in had closed.  Progress?

Good Afternoon.  Stumbled upon this site while seeking info on where I was born in 1942 - 1435 Main Street, Whalom, Fitchburg, MA - aka Red Hill.  I've been to Whalom Park and swum in the lake many times.  So long ago.  Nice site.  Thanks for the effort.

Your website really brought me back to when my daughter went to Whalom and my days at the park.  One thing I regret is that I don't have any pictures.  We lived so close and went pretty often, that we really never thought of bringing a camera.  I'm a real estate agent. but it would make me sick to see development go in there.  The problem is our government is too busy with big business that they are willing to let a piece of Americana pass by.  I really wish the outcome had been different with the park.

Hi, I just wanna thank you for posting a site with pics & info on Whalom Park. My family & I have photos, home videos, & great memories from the 1970's - till' closing era.  I even got the privilege to work there as a teen in the 90's.  I live in Florida now, but visit back home when I get a chance, & would love to see the park back on it's feet again someday & take my neices & nephews there. (Unless they have already sold it & tore it down completely). I would like to know. Thanx a lot,
