1963-1964 Türkiye 2. Ligi

The huge interest forced the Milli Lig to expand and a second level league is established.
Milli Lig became Türkiye 1. Ligi and the new league was called Türkiye 2. Ligi.

The inaugural season at Turkish 2nd league was played by 13 clubs.
4 clubs had been relegated from 1962-1963 Milli Lig - Karagümrük, Şekerspor, Vefa, Yeşildirek, 2 top clubs from Ankara, İstanbul, and İzmir Professional Leagues - Altındağ and Güneşspor, Beylerbeyi and Sarıyer, Demirspor and Ülküspor respectively - joined them. There was only one professional club in other cities - Adana Demirspor, he was accepted to the league. A rather well-known amateur club from the city of Mersin, named Çukurova İdman Yurdu turned professional and was also accepted. Five Bursa amateur clubs merged and established a professional club named after the city - Bursaspor. It completed the roster of 13 clubs.

The format:
The champion got promoted to 1964-1965 Turkish 1. League.
The bottom clubs got relegated.
The tie-breaker was the goal average, which was calculated by dividing the number of goals for into the number of goals against. If the tie doesn't break, the play-off game(s) would be held for the first and last places at the table.

Şeker Hilal changed its name and became Şekerspor.
