 The Poetry Page

W elcome to The Poetry Page! There are two major objectives with this page. First, I intend to use this page as a place to publish my personal writing, which is primarily poetry, but also includes short fiction, non-fiction, and - my latest big project - a serial novel! I've been kind of delinquent with that last bit, and haven't actually worked on that particular book in a while. Whoops. The second objective is to give you, the avid poetry reader, links to great resources, for poetry and for poets, on the web.
Before you begin your adventure into the world of Erin's poetry page, a few notes:
-> I have included as part of this site, a Poet of the Month. It started as a Poet of the Week, but then I realized that I didn't have the time to update that often. It is actually more of a Poet of the Whenever I Get Around To Changing It. But everyone I choose is an excellent writer, and I have included a series of links so that you can read more.
-> Please, no plagiarism. The writings linked to below, unless otherwise specified, are my original works. I take great pride in my work, and, although they say that copying is the greatest form of flattery, I don't want other people stealing my ideas.

It has also come to my attention that I got a little excited with the fonts on this page, and some of the special effects don't work on a Macs (sorry, Jess and Kim and all 4 other Mac users out there).

That's my intro-spiel. Enjoy your adventures in reading...

Other Writings

God versus Nature: Influences on the Declaration of Independence This is an essay I wrote for a Political Science class (polsci 203, American Political Thought with Professor Sedgwick here at UMass). The subject matter is kind of random, but I am proud of it, because it is by far one of the best papers I have ever written.
Something Missing A short story
untitled prose Some ramblings of mine that aren't a story, but aren't quite a poem.
The serial novel used to be linked to here, but I recently took it down. I want to do some more work on it before I repost it. I don't think anyone was reading it anyway.

Poet of the Month

This is a page I created in an effort to educate some of my more culturally illiterate friends. Here is showcased some of the work of my favorite writers.

This Month's Poet

This month, learn about opera composer Giacomo Puccini

Also of note...

For the literary fanatics out there, here is something kind of obscure worth checking out:
For my italian class, we did projects on La Commedia dell'Arte which is essentially Italian impovisational comedy that was popular during the Rennaissance. Some of the plays that came out of the movement are hysterical. Very farcical, lots of sex, funny situations.
I made pages of pictures of Commedia dell'Arte costumes and masks. Check these out:

Poetrynow An online poetry journal
The Academy of American Poets A great place to check out: includes bios of many great American poets and online exhibits of their work
Poetry.com Free Poetry Contest, Poems, Publishing, Links and Chat. I recommend this site, because it is a good way for new writers to get their work out there, and it is a great way to see the work of other amateur poets.
