Amanda and Bernadette, together at last!

I met her!!!!

As I walked in to the Marquis theater and my heart skipped several thousand beats, I had a feeling that the night was going to be the best in my entire life!
When the curtain opened, I burst in to tears. I was in the third row, so I was easily seen by Mr.Wopat, and several ensemble members, lipsyncing to the "There's no Business Like Show Business". During the short dialogue break between "There's no Business Like Show Business" and "Doin' What Comes Natur'lly", I took my coat of, and was wearing my Bernadette Peters sweatshirt(which I had made especially for that night). I cried through the entire first act (out of happiness, of course), and took a short break during intermission, and resumed sobbing through the second act. When Ms.Peters came out to sing "I Got Lost in His Arms", I almost died! She was standing in the middle of the stage with nothing but a backdrop of blackness, and stars, and fog, rolling out over the floor. She was so brilliant, and mesmorizing, that I thought my heart would burst. Sadly, almost as quickly as it had begun, the show was over, and I was clapping so hard, and screaming so loud, I could have very well passed for a wacko. I ran...well, as quickly as you can run through hundreds of people to the front door, and hightailed it to the stage door, where, as I crossed the police barriers, I heard everyone gasp...like a slow motion movie. I knocked on the door, and was promptly let in. I was directed to sit in a black chair at the bottom of a tall staircase dreamily decorated for Christmas. The kids in the show were all sitting at the top of the stairs talking and laughing. First alot of people whom I didn't reconize, came down the stairs, and the first person I reconized was Jeff Calhoun the coreographer. Then came who I thought was Graciela Daniele. After her, Tom Wopat appeared. Boy, was he adorable, but as soon as I asked him to signed my playbill, Bernadette appeared at the top of the stairs, and I went in to an odd trance. She came towards me, and said "You must be Amanda." I almost died right then, and there! I don't remember much about what happened next, but my mom informs me that Ms.Peters seemed to know that I couldn't speak, and was asking me questions...I remember her asking me if I was an actress, and I remember saying "of course". But I didn't even get to say "I love you." which made me feel like I totally blew it...maybe if I ever meet her again...I'll definately be able to speak...I think it was just the initial shock.

any Bernadette encounters you want to be posted, email me @ Bernadette16@aol.com
