Chapter 1

She brought the bike to a screeching halt just in time to catch a glimpse of him crossing the street not far away. Her eyes admired the casual way he carried himself, so carelessly. She sighed in adoration. Pedaling the bike towards him, her chest heaved faster. Just the thought of being next to him made her breathless. Sean stopped at her sight and waited till she reached him. Jodi, without hesitation jumped off her bike and wrapped Sean in a tight embrace. He staggered backwards at the sudden jump.

‘Jodi!’ He exclaimed angrily, pushing her away. Jodi’s big gray eyes looked up at him innocently. His face softened immediately, and a hearty laugh escaped him.

‘I told you I’ll come’ She told him proudly as they began walking. Sean on foot, his young admirer closely by his side.

‘I never doubted you’

Jodi turned to look at him as those words reached her. Was that a compliment or sarcasm? Instead of looking for an answer she found herself staring at him. A small smile in the corner of his mouth, made her laugh inwardly. Sean turned to her after noticing he was being stared at. He was used to it by now, Jodi’s eyes would never leave his face. Such shameless behavior made him slightly uncomfortable. Jodi herself made him uncomfortable ever since her conquest of him began. She was so young, how are you supposed to know what love is at 14? Now he, he’s a grown man. At 16, Sean considers himself the man of the house. He tried hard not to laugh at that expression. Him the man of the house? Now that was funny to him.

‘What are you thinking about?’ Jodi asked him bluntly. Sean lowered his head, avoiding any explanations to her. She could see he was stifling laughter. Was he laughing at her? She hasn’t done anything…just yet.

‘Well?’ She poked him impatiently. Yet the poke felt more like a punch for him. Jodi is such a tomboy, he thought amused, how can she love me?

Jodi gave up trying to get an answer from him. Noticing her house not far, she realized this moment would end quickly. She had to do something before letting him leave again.

‘When are you leaving?’ She asked, getting a step a head of him so she could she him from the front.

‘In 2 days’ Sean replied simply.

‘Will you come and say good bye before you leave?’

He winced at her question, an answer would just lead to more blunt questions of hers. ‘I’ll try’

‘You have to!’ She cried out. ‘I wont see you for 3 weeks! You must tell me all about your band and the songs…and Sweden too!’

Sean looked at Jodi’s excitement. He wondered if he should tell her about the flat outside of London he was supposed to live in with the guys for some time. He felt relieved just thinking about it. Away from parents and her…

‘I’ll send you a postcard’ He decided. Jodi beamed with that idea, she hopped around him like a small child. ‘Will you call?’

Sean didn’t reply. He stopped in front of her house and gestured for her to go in. Jodi looked at the door of her house and sighed. Why couldn’t she stay out longer? Talk more with him, look at his wonderful eyes and how they light up as he smiles.

‘Thanks for walking me home’ She said happily. Sean nodded.

Not like I had a choice, he thought.

Jodi leaned against the brick garden wall and watched him slowly walk away. With his hands in his pocket he looked like a model, strutting down a catwalk…at least to her he did.

‘Goodnight Jaba!’ He called over his shoulder. The sound of her nickname coming from his lips just sent her soaring high. She grabbed her bike off the ground and skipped the rest of the walkway home.
