We really lucked out on this trip. As we drove up on Friday, we could see that the mountain was socked in with storm clouds. It rained on us at we set up camp and made dinner. The clouds broke at about 9 p.m. and it remained clear all night. The skies were still clear when we set out at 6 a.m. and the peak was clear when we got to the summit at about 10:30 a.m. Soon though, the clouds began to build again and some of the final people from the group actually got snowed on. On Sunday morning the mountain was again under a veil of clouds.

Our quest from base camp at 9,520 ft.
Shavano is the center peak in the back.
We ascended the ridge to the right up to tree line
and then cut over towards Shavano.

A well deserved break at treeline.

Then, our group on the summit.

Art surveys the mountains to the north.

The town of Salida, some 7,000 ft. below us.

...and finally, me on the summit.
