Welcome to the official website for Berrigan Elementary School. The purpose of this website is to provide useful information for parents, students, and teachers so we can all work together to build a wonderful school within a supportive community that we can ALL feel proud of. This site has been donated, built and maintained by the Berrigan Elementary School Council and the thoughts and opinions on this website in no way reflect the policies of the Ottawa Carleton District School Board itself. A link is provided to the board from this website in case you are looking for board specific information
The Berrigan Elementary School Council would like to encourage parents to get involved in the school council by attending meetings that are usually held the first Monday of every month in the library. By attending these monthly meetings you have a voice and the ability to help us best represent the needs and interests of everyone.
The School Council will keep you informed of issues as they arise on the "School Council" page. Please join our mailing list and stay informed! School council has been advocating for grade 7 to 12 facilities within our own community. There was an ongoing on line poll that we asked parents to fill out. Information gathered was used to advocate for grade 7 to 12 schools in our own community. The school board has purchased the land beside our new school site on Berrigan and will be building a new grade 7 to 12 high school that is scheduled to open September 2008. You can get more information on the grade 7 to 12 highschool by clicking on the Longfields Davidson Heights Grade 7-12 Secondary School Action Committee link. This new action committee is a partnership between Adrienne Clarkson Elementary, Farley Mowat Elementary and Berrigan Elementary School Councils. Our purpose is to ensure that the new High School is constructed and opens its doors September 2008!
The page headings that appear on the left are pretty self explanatory. All you need to do is click on one of the headings to enter the next area of the website. The School Council, Administration and Library pages contain lots of useful information. The Kids, Parents, Teachers and Community pages are filled with helpful links. Our newest page entitled "news clippings" has articles about Berrigan Elementary School.
Our new school is beautiful on so many levels and when students returned to classes in January of 2006 after winter break they were simply amazed! Part of the goal for May of 2007 is to encourage parents to start up Neighbourhood Watch programs within their neighbourhoods. This will not only serve to aid in residential crime prevention but will play a crucial role in ensuring that our new school is free from vandalism. We would like to encourage parents to visit
www.neighbourhoodwatchbarrhaven.com and read about the program. In May of 2007 both Mr. Widenmaier and Mr. Towaij plan on canvassing neighbourhoods to look for support for this excellent program. The "Berrigan Initiative" will use the school as a central point where the school and the community can come together for the common goal of crime prevention. If you think you can help please contact us!
A couple of parents are initiating The Walking School Bus
program for our school. Please read the information on this and contact them if you are interested walkingschoolbus@gmail.com
