Logan's not exactly the easiest guy to get to know - just ask his favorite team-mates, the X-Men. They learned most of what they know about the Runt the hard way -- or by pure accident.

Uncanny X-Men #95 So far as I've found so far, this is the earliest indication that Wolverine was fluent in Russian. No big announcements or extra attention drawn to it really - just him knowing what Piotr called him without a translation being needed.

Uncanny X-Men #98 Wolverine had been with the X-Men close to a year at this point. They had, of course, seen him use his claws, but had assumed that the claws were part of his gloves - not him.

Uncanny X-Men #118 When six of the Xers (Wolverine, Storm, Banshee, Cyclops, Nightcrawler and Colossus) ended up stranded in Japan and had to turn to Sunfire for aid, they found out that Wolvie could read and speak Japanese (as Mariko remarked 'very well for an American')

Classic X-Men #45 Reprint of Uncanny #139 Maybe hard to believe looking back, but it all through the rise and fall of Dark Phoenix, none of the Xers had a clue what Wolverine's name was. In fact, if Nightcrawler hadn't tagged along with Wolvie to Canada and overheard Heather blurt it out, they still might not know.

Wolverine #75 Not every thing was a surprise just to the X-Men. Now and again, things cropped up that were news to him too. In this case, until Magneto pulled out his adamantium, none of them realised that his claws weren't an implant from the Weapon X project.
