(Also Known As Trying To Piece Together Logan's Past)

World War Two Years(1939 - 1945)

Probably 1942 - Uncanny X-Men 268

Another flashback - this one from someone other than Logan. Theo, the gardener who taught Elektra how to tend plants as a girl, was a member of the Greek resistance in WWII. Since the resistance was formed in 1942, that's a very likely year for Logan to have been sent in to train, but 1943 isn't out of the running either.

This story of the war was told to Logan and Elektra when she took him home with her to visit her home in Greece.

Theo's mother was killed by an SS officer. When word of that reached him, he was ready to grab a gun and take care of at least one Nazi personally. Logan gave him his own dagger to prevent Theo from bringing the whole SS down on top of the other members of the resistance and went with him to back his move. As it turned out, Theo missed his quarry -- the SS officer responsible had already been transferred away. What happened while the two were alone in Nazi territory isn't mentioned, but for whatever reason, Theo ended up keeping the dagger.

I included this picture because (to me), it following the one above graphically illustrates one reason Logan tends to keep himself a hard man to get close to. Logan himself hasn't aged noticibly in the 50-plus years between the war and the telling of the story - Theo's gone from a strong, young fighter to an old man in the same period of time.

This story took place during Logan's recovery from the bestal phase which explains why Theo never connects the face. He also didn't connect the name because, even though the dagger he kept has Logan's name on it, Theo can't even read his native Greek, let alone English.
