Jean Watson
Dr. Jean Watson is the author of "Nursing: The Philosophy and Science of Caring" (1979)
and "Nursing: Human Science and Human Care, A Theory of Nursing"(1985). "Her writings have been geared toward educating nursing students and providing them the ontological and epistomological basis for their praxis and research directions"(Barnhart, Bennett, Porter, & Sloan, 1994, p. 149).
In her literature, Watson proposes a philosophy and science of caring. She believes that in this age of technology nursing is losing touch
with the art and science of caring (Talento,1995).
"The process of human care for individuals, families, and groups is a major focus for nursing not only because
of the dynamic human-to-human transactions, but because of the requirements of knowledge,
commitment, and human values, and because of the personal, social, and moral engagement
of the nurse in time and space" (Watson, 1988, p.27-8).
