The Auto Transformer Rectifier Type Control are used to vary the speed of a DC shunt Motors from 0 to it's base speed by armature voltage control.
The Standard capacities
available are:

The basic system consists
of the following :
Voltmeter(digital/analog)
, Ammeter(digital/analog), On/Off switch, RPM Meter(optional), Contactor*,
HRC Fuses, Limit Switch*, Variac(Auto transformer), Rectifier Units (with
RC Networks), Input, Output Terminals and indication lamps all placed in
a ventilated powder coated steel sheet box.
These controllers when compared to the Thyristor control modules are often more reliable. The definite advantages being:
